YVerloc: Damn, those are some nice pics. The first one look like a nice mix of Alien3 architecture and Robocop finale. I can dig it.
You can bitch anyday for all I care as long as you attach images like these.
No pic, Sorry. No speedstas lying around.

YVerloc,
I'm agree with you, and I'm bored with zhuzhu arts.
But I don't think I've the same vision of art than him, or you.
I take my own ref (when I use ref), I can't draw something I hate. I hate robots, I hate guns, I hate soldier, tank, dragons, dog, plane etc.... and a lot of people draw them better than me. (for exemple your last drawings are really good, but I don't like them.)
everybody is obsess by something in art, When I look at spooge's paintings, I don't care about the subject, there is something more in them, and all his paintings are the same, but all are unique for me.
well my english is really bad, but I just want to say that I don't think that my paintings are more interesting than others paintings here, but they're trying to say something different, and if you don't like it, I'm sorry.
I'm also bored by a lot of pictures here, but I'm not here to tell to everybody that their interest are not mine |

Fair nuff Swarm. Didn't want to hurt any feelings. I respect your opinions and your process. But I did want to be honest. Brutally honest. You contribute enough around here that you deserve direct feedback, good or bad.
Power-posters like you, Zhu, and Matthew get handled with kid gloves. Everyone plays nice and abides by momma's rule about not saying anything at all if it's not something nice. You get a low of "wow Swarm" because of this. What exactly does 200 "wow Swarm" comments add up to? Insincere positive feedback can be incredibly damaging if taken to heart. Have you watched Simon Cowell rip the heart out of an American Idol hopeful? Have you seen the look of pain on their face as they get told they suck, for the first time in their life, probably? That pain is the pain of realizing that their friends and family were lying through their teeth year after year - "Omigod, Sally, you are, like, the best singer. You should totally go onto American Idol. You'll totally win!"
You don't suck. In fact you rock. But I've watched your stuff for a while now, and it's not developing. I looked at posts you made a long time ago, and I can't tell the difference from recent posts. You're stuck. "wow Swarm" isn't going to help you get unstuck. But "fer chrissakes, try something different" might. I'm being brutal, but at least I respect you enough to be brutal.

doodled this rubbish in order to offer another opinion: I have no issue with you swarm, your work fits well into my boundaries of 'artistic'. I like your work, and sometimes I find it simply wonderful!
However, I am one of many in tiring of zhuzhu's work. To me your work is truly a 'wank' in medium, and colours etc and it would appear you have no interest in the subjectmatter and only in technique. Especially since it seems you rarely invent your subjectmatter (using generic 'beautiful women' references) and you rarely paint with respect to it: on the sun-hat images the rendition of dappled light on the face makes the (undoubtedly) pretty girl's face ugly, and it's only charm is as a trick of the medium. this is just my opinion and as always it's just preferences. I've expressed mine and I'm sorry.

Yverloc: the putty idea is great. I would never have thought of that.
Bill Baxter: unpredictable as ever. I love your last two.
Rhomb and Idiran: great to have you back on the thread.
Swarm: your hatred of robots, dogs and planes exemplifies the attitude of the university tutors who rejected my work many years ago. In their eagerness to be seen to be at the cutting edge of modern art, they dismissed me. I was a dopey kid: I had barely got dungeons, dragons and dinosaurs out of my system, but was expected to conform to the vaccuous, sterile new tyranny.
If I sound bitter, its because I still am.

interesting discussion not sure if I have seen those kid gloves though.
Its a difficult thing to make a picture work for many and with all the different tastes floating around here in this forum it gets even tougher.
Me and ax--hv had a discussion about this just the other day in a pm to eachother. For eg I told him that -that dragon I made some pages way back that everyone was fund of I didnt like that much actually.
Not sure why I am saying all of this above here but for me its not all about getting nice comments about my pictures in here, I would rather call it to be a part of an incredible thing in this digital age of time, this thread is just incredible and what keeps me going.
keep it up everyone
Color test to post something along with the text, yea I know it sucks.

Yverloc, nice image up there and nicely put. good criticism is
better than a bunch of occasional wow!s.
Pudding, thanks:) ...Even toughened ugly cowboys can't sometimes
get the cool things like dinosaurs out of the system

Idrian : you don't suck ;)
Summer Pudding : I hate to draw planes, dogs, robots etc, I hate watching at real planes, dogs etc, but I like some artistical representation of them (I like a lot of drawings with robots and animals...like a lot of your paintings.)
YVerloc : I'm glad you take the time to explain your opinion to me. And I'm agree with you :)
I'm not hurt by bad feedback, I don't expect good feedback, I just want to share my drawings, and I know I'm a beginner. Next year I'll attend to an art school, with art teachers, and I hope I'll make progress there and open my mind to new subjects, techniques, etc
But I didn't post in this forum everything I did, the big part of my work is on my sketch books. my digital work is just painting for fun, and for fun, I like to draw girls... but...
I'm not happy with my work, you say that you "can't tell the difference from recent posts", and in fact I think there are no big difference, the only one is that I made my old images in 2-3hours most of the time, and now I made them in 20-30min...
I'll try to make something different..
thank you. |

Mikko K, very nice and simple.
Personal Reminder for Matthew: Keep my mouth shut at all times since I am mostly rambling anyway.
ok I will try to go back to hide mode again and not post much in here cause I know it can be frustrating with newbies like me posting all around the thread. I will probably be a newbie forever.
a quick sketch to see if my brain still worked or not.

Pud' you rrrock! You're The Man. Nothing Constructive. Just wonderfull.
I'm not mucha painter but I have to agree with YVerloc and Capt.Fred about ZhuZhu's artwork. I envy the dedication zhu has in repeating the process over and over again. Technique maybe just stunning but pictures become soulless copies of the reference. Lot of the pictures are uninteresting from the start because of using uninteresting reference nr.1003854884XXX.
Now my bad try..
It's easier doodle technical stuff with felt tip pens (in work) than trying to do same thing with wacom at home. It loses the looseness and becomes stif piece o'. _________________ .slave for hire. |

Swarm: I've been thinking about what I wrote, and feel I've treated you unfairly. You didn't deserve it, and were gracious enough not to retaliate. I'm really sorry. My wife is often telling me to think before I speak, and she's right.

Matthew> Thanks man, though I can't agree with that, I make things too complicated cuz I have no clue how to approach a painting (I'm serious, it's all a struggle). Keep posting, nevermind all that kid glove stuff. Some nice momma talk here: those station pics done from memory were pretty good!
HPX> Damn, you're one sick mind, good stuff!
Everybody, keep up the good work, well work anyways, you can always put up a discussion thread whether it's good or not. And talk about Pyle's theories if you run out of ammo. |

hmmmn...amazing how a once happy friendly thread can go ugly.
It is a Speedpainting thread, so I wouldn't think that only breakthrough pieces would apply, otherwise there'd be four posts a year. I tend to do hundreds of drawings/paintings before I get one that I'm even partially happy with. To each his own though I guess.
I think if you truly look back at Matthews work, or ZhuZhu's work and Swarm's work, you will see changes in them. In fact, amazing changes. All of them have grown insanely , as have most of the other people on here(well cept' me ).
Beyond that, I look forward to ZhuZhu's pieces. I think lots of people do. And Swarm's one of my fav artist on here. Matthew is the heart and soul of this site, he never gave up and is doing great work now. So I hope they keep posting.
I'm not trying to cause problems, I just want happy Sijun, I liked it better.
Well here's my crummy daily lunch drawing, half hour, IRON MAN!

I used a bigger brush than I'm usually comfortable with to force myself to keep it loose and fast. Acrylic.

Yo!
I wasn't going to post today...so I scribble some real quick one because I am going to open my mouth.
Yverloc>> I totally agree with you. If the artist is willing to grow then he/she will need to expend and break thru or constantly evolving. And I think u did the right thing here. Your statement will make lot of people in this forum think about their art more, not just Zhu or Swarm. Though...each person's entitle to their preference, and I am sure u aware of that. Zhu zhu and Swarm is a big part of the reason that make me and many wants to get better...so they meant something to me. So they did something really good..get me and many motivated. BUT again I am GLAD U SPEAK UP because it is a great contribution to them and everyone.
Edit: Also...your work rock!
Swarm>> U r one of my fav artists, and I am sure u will grow to be a great one. Keep it up...
Zhu Zhu>> I have seen your work since you start posting here...You've come a long way, seriously you did. Keep progressing and expending.
AREN"T WE ALL A BIG HAPPY FAMILY OF SPEEDY?
EDITED-GOOD WORK everyone, keep it going.
HPX>> I don't know how u do it, but they turn out COOL everytime. U should post some tutorial sometime. I can't analyze them with my lil tiny brain.
BOTBOT>> I like your TONY STARK, that's cool! Where is Flapstrap these days? U should encourage him some more.
