This was loosely referenced from mr. Travolta's face. I tried to avoid that boredom that comes from copying a photo directly.
Still struggling with the values, back to grayscale...

MIKKO : im honored by that overpaint, you made it much better ! I get stuck all the time in local spots of struggle and my brains forget the whole picture constantly.
SPOOGE : you said i should use bigger brushes and simplify, hereby i dare to ask if u got some spare moments and see the point of it, to treat one of my pics as you would ? _________________ If there is no God, who pops up the next kleenex in the box? |

playing around with painter classic, like it a lot, the way the brushes work and the the triangle colourpickingthing work are great. I think I'll buy the real thing soon
edit: and you gotta love the paletteknife
from memory and imagination i guess.

Aargh. I can't bear it any more. It's "Emperor's New Clothes" time. Many of you are thinking it, but I'll play the bad guy and out -and-say-it:
a) Zhuzhu, you should change you handle to spamspam.
b) And while I'm in a snit, darn-it Swarm, how many protraits of the bored french woman do we have to see? I like your stuff, honestly I do. But my critique is that you look a heck of a lot like a one-trick-pony. Why do you post here? If it's to get valuable feedback, it doesn't show, because the latest pics of your ex girlfriend look exactly like the ones you were doing months ago. (years ago? - I've lost track of time, it just seems to go on forever). I did a check, and I noticed that you've posted at least one "swarm's bored-but-hip French chick" picture EVERY PAGE as far back as I cared to look. You have single-handedly created an entirely new subgenre of the sad clown painting. Is there some kind of method to your madness?
Put up or shut up token image:
Sorry for the harsh vibe.

...I have to say that I agree with you, Yverloc. Can't even tell the difference
if it's referenced or just made up.

Aw heck, now I feel bad. I should add:
Zhuzhu - Your deft brushwork makes my eyes pop. Your skills are amazing. And I do wish I had your amazing level of motivation. You seem to be attempting to perfect your technique. As such, repetition is to be expected in your practice material. However, we don't need to see all your practice material. Why not post an image when you think you've made some kind of breakthrough, or done something different? And instead of:
"No. 1trillion, photoshop:"
Maybe a fuller comment, like...
"As you know, I've been attempting to perfect my babe rendering skills. I've been having a lot of trouble controlling my flesh tones, but I think this time I nailed it. Comments?"
...would garner useful feedback.
Swarm: Ditto as zhuzhu. Amazing skills. Great eye. Super sense of style. I was serious when I said that I love your work. I loved your work when I first saw it, that is. Since then, it has gotten seriously old. You're better than this. I wish I could see the work you would be doing if you weren't obsessing over pout-girl.
Another put-up-or-shut-up pic:
This one was an overpaint of a digital pic I shot of a lump of silly putty. It was a really fun technique. Anyone else out there occasionally shot photos of self-made sculptures to overpaint?
