Maybe someone can help me with this-
I'm working in Painter 8 w/ an Intuos. I need to make a square shaped brush follow the orientation of the line I'm drawing. The intous has tilt recognition, but it gets awkward holding my hand at a strange angle. How do I make a brush follow the direction of a stroke? I know I've seen it done. The manual on the CD says exactly zilch about it.
P.S. I'm running the educational version. Is the .pdf an incomplete manual? |

Pending your answer to my question above... here's something you can try that may help:
NOTE: The following sentence was edited by Jin on April 1, 2004 to change "Pastels' Square Chalk variant" to Chalks' Square Chalk variant.
Using the Chalks' Square Chalk variant, go to the Brush Selector menu and choose Restore Default Variant.
Open the Brush Creator, click the Stroke Designer tab, and go to the Angle section.
Leave the Squeeze slider at 74%.
Change the Expression to Direction.
Move the Direction slider to 360 degrees.
The brush variant you're using may determine if these few setting adjustments are all you'll need to make the brush dab shape follow your brushstroke as you wanted.
You probably have the complete Painter 8 User Guide in PDF format.
To learn more about the subject of your message and the method I suggested, open the PDF, click the Bookmarks tab, click The Brush Creator, then click Setting Angle Controls and read that section.

I had been using a thick acrylic flat, but the chalk brush is MUCH more what I was going after.
Thanks for the tip! ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) |

Hi,
I'm glad to hear what I suggested will work for you.
Sorry, I should have typed Chalk's Square Chalk variant in my previous message (I'll edit it now), not Pastel's Square Chalk variant, though there are some variants in the Pastels category with which you could use that method.)
It happens that for the Thick Acrylic Flat variant, the Brush Creator > Stroke Designer > Angle section controls are not available.
