Hello guys ,
I am desperately trying to color in painting style . All my previous works are done in a cartoony way (cel style shading)
Now i read all the tutorial i can find . I am trying to learn from them . I've tried to start this painted look a lot of times , i always get frustrated please help me . I'll post a reference photo and what i did so far . Please anythig would be useful , i am aiming to achieve something half decent by the end of this . lets conentrate on the skin for now

probably, the best way to break out of a more cartoony technique is to practice in an ala prima style. Do not use premixed colors, every time you put paint down mix a new color to capture the subtle differences. Also its a good idea to work on the background at the same time as the rest of the piece. Check out Mon's digital painting tutorial he posted, which uses a very painterly technique and notice how he gets the basic gist of the entire painting in the first couple steps with a minimum number of large brushstrokes and then gradually defines it more and more. It is the same way for real painting as it is for digital. |
