pud - you humour me, keep going, i'm always eager to see a new one from you.
as you can see, spooges' textural influence is taking hold of me....but i think, and hope its a positive thing.
hopefully theres still a bit of thebrave in there somewhere  ..........prolly just the bad bits huh? 
still wrestling with the agony of self doubt balanced with the occasional elation of a perceived sucess.
...........still its better that staking shelves in a supermarket.........and believe me i've been there.

I'm just about done making a tutorial for this one. Not that it's THAT special, but it's one of the few pieces I remembered to hit "save" enough times on.

Someone asked if matte painting would be a good academic exercise is itself. Yes! But again, careful of what you let into your head. The appearance of things might not be the best way for you. I guess the best of all worlds is to be able to learn something and then be able to use it or not to varying degrees.

Mon - that is beutiful man, masterful lighting
here's one from last night...........HG.Wells' War of the Worlds is my favourite novel of all time. though actually that wasnt always the case, i heard jeff waynes musical extravaganza when i was about 11 and it scared the shit out of me for ages, i was convinced those martians were all set to invade!!!
over developed imagination...........wish i still had it

a 30 minutes sketch from memory, this is where I am standing on the way home and waiting for the train to show up.
Still though sniff sniff  I think I failed with this one, have to work on this more with tryin to remember stuff.

Man this thread is goooood!
Spooge; I didn't know you where a War of the Worlds freak. That's one of my all time favs too. I have some WoW pieces in my portfolio. Of course yours is way sooper rad, and mine suck.
Here's another baddie, it's Feng Zhu. Used ref for his face and the ladies. Don't really like this one.

Ron - Thanks man. That really made my day. It was the first thing I saw when I came to work today. Great job on the skin tones. I really like that Star Wars painting too. Feel free to use any of my daily photos for ref. I love it.
Mon - Great creature work. Looking forward to the tut. I really like your style.
Spooge - I really dig the Halo guy. Great reflections. I'm not one who cares if you paint with textures or not. What I'm interested in is the design/composition, color theory, and how you perceive light.
Matthew - Nice dragon.
