Hmm, well, I sorta like this picture....but nobody else seems to very much, maybe you can all tell me what's wrong with it? (Besides the arms, I know they're off...) Thanks =) Oh, it's a fanart of KOS-MOS from Xenosaga Episode II. Thanks

personally i love the head and the hair but i think the feet and legs look too computer generated like kinda plastic or something maybe they need to be sharper but other than that its pretty wicked my old sunshine.

You've done a pretty good job, I think. I agree with synie that there appears to be a bit of clash between the more "computery" lookin parts and the more hands on rendered parts. Also I think the basic value structure of the piece could be improved upon, turn it into a b&w image, shrink it down and squint at it from a ways away and see if its still readable. Think of a Simplified version of the value, is this a light figure coming out of a dark background or vice versa, or is his upper body lighter than the background while his feet are darker. One more thing, I take it that the character is falling, but the background and character is so highly rendered and detailed it makes it look static like hes just hanging in midair (in which case his hair should be hanging down). If you get the value structure more nailed down you will find there is not as much need for the hard ouline around the body to seperate it from the background and you can use some well placed blurs to give it a sense of motion. I know thats a good bit of criticism but I still think youve done a good job so far and theres nothing keeping this from becoming a very good illustration. Hope I helped.

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the metal parts of her costume look less computer generated? Here's what her (computer generated, ha) costume looks like http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/game/docs/20040123/ep202.htm.

Heysoos: She's a she, by the way, do you think she has a masculine looking face?

Edit: Oh, and I didn't have this picture or really any good screenshots, so some of her design is off

hehe oops, sorry, Very Happy I guess I've just seen too many feminine looking male anime characters, its getting hard to tell the difference. No she doesn't look too masculine. I don't think there is a problem with the metal parts on the arms, I was thinkin more of the legs as looking computery. I think they just need a bit more of a structured look in the way the light and shadows go across them.

I think the legs would have looked better if you went with more precise highlights on the legs, as you did around the thighs and the very tops of the leg. soon as you get into the greyish leggings, it just sorta becomes a gradient. I think the lighting is off on the legs as well, but i'm not quite sure how.
Also, around the feet i think it needs some more detail and the features don't seem as exact as the rest of the picture.
