Hello two-na

At this stage there are a lot of things to consider such as Perspective, anatomy, colors, light and shadow. All of these are very difficult and anatomy is one of those nerve wrecking parts to learn, at least it is for me and I am still struggling with the anatomy.

http://www.fineart.sk ,is a good learning resource on the internet and they have some anatomy books for free there. u might wanna check it out.
Other than that it is good to look at other artists how they work and how they do when lighting a painting or set-up characters in their paintings. Speed-thread over in the gallery finished is a good place to look into every day to get inspiration and also to pick up some tips here and there.

I made an over-paint for u and it�s not perfect in any way but maybe u can pick up some tips from it.
I only worked on the character so I didn�t apply any perspective in the over-paint, perspective is a real boost for characters and gives depth when applied, also nowadays I am thinking of dynamics as the most important in paintings especially with characters. Pierre is doing a lot of dynamics in his samurai pictures, some of those posted in the speedy.

hehe. Matthew is making his "special" overpaintings again... matth, thats not an overpaint, its a NEW picture, guess you did it like that because you even cant see any samurai in the pic like me

two-na, you really have to define your figure more, its very hard to see whats going on... just a bunch of black and white shapes...

I dont have a problem with stylized pictures, but this one is too abstract in my opinion.... but whatever, i'm just a newb myself

Yeah... that figure is really hard to define... try reducing a samurai to shapes in 3d. spheres, boxes etc (a mannequin I suppose ) and then drawing it at this angle and adding the detail on top... this allows you to get the lighting right... trust me on this. I have only recently gone back to the basics of shapes and it helps with EVERYTHING.

My guess is you have an image in your head and you are trying to paint it straight off... learn to build it first and then you will eventually be able to paint it from your head when you understand the underlying shapes and forms.

lol yea u are right there Neff, perhaps I should stop with my poor over-paints, dang my itching over-paint fingers If I see a cool piece I have to touch it with the wacom-pen.
