hello again,
here are some concepts I've done for the game I'm working on at the moment.
Comments and crits welcome
Whaja think?
Pud'
EDIT: oh boy, that was a most tense 24 hours for this poster. But everything's hunky dory again. So, here they are...
again.
PS: PLEASE READ. Time to cover my ass here. I have to add this wee request, just in case. It probably goes without saying, but if anyone here takes a liking to these pictures, please don't distribute them. I imagine Microsoft wouldn't be too happy with them ending up on Fable fansites, or anywhere else for that matter.
cheers guys
there are a few more images here on my website

Wow man, nice textures on the creatures. I like the last one a lot, I have a thing for sea monsters.
*Now that I look at the again, are the first and last ones of the same monster? |

So nice, I'm really mad about Spooky_Woods_Day.jpg.
All of them are very strong in the concept!
Keep it up! ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) |

Thanks guys, I'm glad you liked them. Unfortunately I have to take them off the air, only for a while I hope. I got the go ahead to put them on my site, but I guess someone in the chain wasn't informed, and they're deciding whether it's kosher or not. Hopefully it's all a lot of fuss over nothing.
If not, prison visits are from nine till three on weekdays.

No Capt.Fred! Don't die yet!
At least not by 'Pud's hands... we don't want him to be in prison any longer than he has to be!
Too bad I also missed those pics... darn non-disclosure agreements... _________________

The colors are excellent. The first few look like they're from Where The Wild Things Are. _________________ The Medium Is The Message |

they are nice.
my only problem is that some of the locations look like they would be very difficult to play on. they don't have the right room dynamics to make a good location, but it depends alot on the kind of game. any 1st person game wouldn't do too well in the places. they look cool though! |

fae: guess again. I'm actually on the run, Richard Kimble style, foraging for grubs and berries in the Guildford area.
Somnambulist: wow! That's some mighty praise there. I love that book. Not sure what Mr Sendak would have to say about it though.
Pringle: thanks again. There's a night version of it on the site.
GardenGnome: oh yeah! I hadn't noticed that before. They do look pretty similar.
Wagner: thanks mate, glad you like them. The environment pictures were never intended to be final, locked down renderings of the finished levels. Their main purpose was to trigger ideas in the designers heads, and establish the overall mood. They were also a handy way of communicating my ideas to the engine programmers. Experience has shown me that during the intial level design phase, any concept art more lavish than a scribble on a bit of scrap paper is a waste of time. Gameplay issues are best resolved in the editor.
Everyone else, thanks a million. Glad you like them. I'll put more on the site when I have a spare moment.
Big hugs.

BBB keep us in radio silence about creatures for ages and then we get tons via Sijun.com....
I'm sure they'll understand though. You're too good to lose ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

Those are simply brilliant. Seriously, after the game comes out BBB should put all of the concept artwork into a book and sell it. I sure as hell would go for that. |

Ewok, Heysoos, Shamaroth, thanks.
Svanur: I'm not sure what my boss would make of me divulging too much. But a couple of suggestions won't hurt I guess. If you're rushed for time, as I was for most of these pictures, try pasting grunge maps into selections created with QuickMask.
There are times when I'd be lost without Quickmask and Paste Into. Scale back the transparency, until only a vague texture shows through. Use colour balance, hue & saturation etc, and draw over the result. For the image below, I used a grunge map created from existing game texture maps. This is no substitute for good painting, but for the hard pressed games artist, it can be a quick, easy way to add a little extra detail to a concept. If you start with a detailed pencil drawing, let it show through in places, don't paint over it all.
The crashing waves were all hand drawn though. I don't think there are any shortcuts for that sort of thing.
I hope this was helpful

Good work, Pud!
My favourite is that blue forest pic, it has a nice feeling to it. Even though you might have hurried with these, I think all of them tell the story very well. Keep it up man! ps. I wanna slap ![Wink](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |
