Bill Baxter: More samurai please. Your last one was spot on.
HaRdC0rePixxX: thanks. I've seen Sith Lords on our website. Give us some more!
Capt.Fred: belated compliment on the guy with the tache you painted in acrylics. Reminded me of Frans Hals.

This should really bother the texture-h8ers
thanks for the compliments on the sniper dood! Seems like people liked that one. I can never tell.
Prom ANJ, watch out, it might happen to YOU...
flush, I would not place much on those kind of rules. Learn them so you can break them. Draw that horizon right down the middle! Ever seen the academics that draw all kinds of circles and swirls and magic squares all over a master painting? Follow it closely sometime, you will see it makes no sense at all, or, you can do the same with a Kincade (not to pick on him, but he's a good example of a non-master) or a picture of road kill. The academic tends to make things very complex and impenetrable for the sake of their intellectual stature and future employment. Too bad, because it makes real insight a more difficult thing to see.
I think what is bothering you about that image is the break of value across the BG behind the gun barrel. Flattens things out when you have unfortunate alignments like that.
Mad martigan, If I use ref like I think you are meaning, it is pretty obvious, like the Clint eastwood thing. But I use ref all the time, but not to paint from, but more from informational purposes. I am working right now on some Cossacks riding through a forest. I have no idea what those uniforms look like. So I go get a lot of ref. But not to copy shapes or interpret shapes as an illustrator would. Hope that answers your question.
Pudding, you have an interesting brain.
Capn Fred, digital is the perfect add and subtract medium. Use it that way! Paint it on, cut it back, move it around. Your shapes will get better and more interesting and loose that PS round brush worm look. |

ceenda why? Thats really cool
spooge i thought of pm-ing you but better post it here: The custombrushes are used at the very end of the image or do you start with them?
Cause i try this way many times. I start with colors and different brushes. and then look what i see in the image or i already have an idea. Then forming the shapes and go on adding some details. But when drwaing over textur, at the end you almost loose every textur look. ahh always the same questions ha spooge?
zhuzhu thats the yamaha R1 one ?! I ride this bike and this year the new . Its a hot bike. Fast and beautiful |

@spooge: thomas kinkade? found his webpage with google and recognised his work. i think i saw him and his work years ago in tv at primetime where he was mentioned as todays' (financial) richest american painter or so, earning millions with his pictures and prints.
i'm not sure, but i think it was him.
btw. what do you mean when you say that he is a good example of a "non-master"? his exaggerated, kitschy colors? his more cartoonish proportions? i'm asking because i am quite sure that he doesn't want to paint realistic and chose this fairytale-style consciously. or do you think that his painting aren't too good even within the scope of this fairytale-style? _________________ known as "ChrisNix" elsewhere. |

hey blehblehbleh,
if you think that custombrushes make the whole thing such easy, why don't you use them to prove it to us? let's say you get 50 trials to do pics in the quality like the ones of spooge by using any opportunity photoshop offers you, except filters - i am sure that you won't get too far.
by the way, what do you think how "real" art should be made? by painting with a needle? _________________ known as "ChrisNix" elsewhere. |

see, zhuzhu, Swarm: Thanks guys.
-HoodZ-: Thanks. Great textures in that one!
Mikko K: Nice! Cool characature too.
Summer Pudding: Haha, that Baron one is great. Have to admit though, if I was one of the soldiers I'd have to resist the temptation to tie the end of his cape to something as he went past just to see what would happen.
Woah... the eyes went a bit wierd on this (even after the 10000th modification). It's a Spanish matador. (btw, condolences to any of the Spanish members here, with recent events in Madrid. Some people are just shits. I hope you catch them.)

spooge: interesting brain is it? Nurse Ratchett tells me much the same after she's read my yearly evaluation. I've no idea what she means either! Nice work on the pre-Raphaelite damsel. Impasto on the dress, watercolour on the grass. Shouldn't work, but it does.
swarm: halloween.jpg is gorgeous. I'm usually drawn to more representational art, but this one really impressed me.
ceenda: lol. Glad you liked it. It was fun to paint.
M.C. Barrett: you're the reflections, highlights and overall vehicle design Mozart to most of the rest of us' Salieri! Who gives a shit about composition?!

First, what the hell is an "amazine"? Did you mean to say "amazing"? With a brain like that, it's no wonder you're such an art god! Fucking dolt. |
