I've known for a while now that there are alot of skilled artists here so I was hesitant to post anything here at all until a classmate recommended that I do. So here it is!

an oldie but a goodie of mine

I kinda try to develop two styles. One as reasistic as I can do, the other cartoony and anime-like.

I've also been doing some of the realistic stuff in charcoal pencils, its probably the best stuff I've been doing but its on 18x24 and my scanner really isn't too reliable but I'll bring it up if you guys want to see it. I think its nice.

Comments, crits, ego stroking all welcome (especially the ego stroking).[/img]

Your classmate is a retard or hes is in love with you. Your first drawing is from three years ago if thats one of your "goodies" you really shouldn't be posting on this forum. If your looking for praise go and show it to mummy. The only positive thing i can say about the second picture is at least the girl doesn't have camel toe but neither does she have a camel neck or any kind of neck.

That's really about the least constructive criticism I've ever heard man, lighten up. I don't think grinner claimed he/she was a pro or anything.

My crit-
It's true, that dawing is a little on the old side. Your work of this type should show more form and volume rather than just line. Line is great for gesture and thumbnails, but a finished drawing needs more weight to it.

Your other piece does a good job describing form, but your proportions are a little off. It also bothers me a little that the figures are so cropped. I would concentrate on getting the entire body in there and proportioned right before worrying about perfectly shaded color. Take a look at the work of bengal around here on this site to see an example of what I think you were going for.

All in all, decent stuff, though. I think with some work you'd be really good. Always glad to have another member around here. Welcome aboard!

Ok, iandredd, i dont know where the hell that came from. I agree that grinner should post some more recent work and he definately has some issues to work out, but he is hardly unworthy to post here. And i checked out your site ian, buddy, you really have no room to be such a snob

Well, whatever you think of my work, i dont go spamming the forum with stuff I did from three years ago Rolling Eyes . We see an awful lot of this kind of thing on sijun and for once I thought i would speak my mind. Dont worry I will do the mature thing in the future and say nothing. Im sure that would be the advice of many long time members who have expressed dismay at the state of the forum, but the truth is if they have looked at "grinners" post they probably think the same thing I did.

Well Ian, thats they're damn problem since they all hang out in speedpaint and ignore everyone else. If it wasn't for people like Grinner this forum would be deader than it already is. And that's DEAD.

This forum's not dead, it's just tightly focused. All the talent and skill hangs out in the speed thread. And though Grinner's work is decent enough for a newbie, there's simply more to crit than most people have time for. Grinner, you just need to keep working on the basics and you'll do alright.

Wow, those are some kickass Schwarzenegger photomanips, ian! You fucking rule. You can't even hack photos up with any level of skill. No wonder you're so bitter.

Kimchi, I am glad you like my photomanips which I created from 300 dpi source images and spent weeks creating Very Happy . I am not bitter at all, I am all to aware of my limited skills which is why I have never posted my work, aside from the odd post in speed painting. Well anyway, I'm sorry if I have truly upset anyone, I guess I have been spending too much time over at eatpoo where unlike vietnam or sijun, there are rules.
