I have to make a CD cover. So i wonder, is it possible to print RGB nowdays? I don't know about latest technology, but i think it could be possible to get some RGB colors using additional "neon" colors.
Anybody got latest news on printing options? |

Ummm....
Do you mean actually PRINTING in Red, Blue and Green inks?
Its not possible, and this is why-
RGB displays work because you are using light (in different intensities) to create color. You are essentially adding light into black.
Printing requires Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black (CMYK) to print using the different combinations of ink on white paper make up the image. You are basically putting dark onto white. Make sense?
I have heard that many printers are now using CMYKG inks the process. The G is an extra ink- green. As anyone who does alot of press work knows, green is EXTREMELY difficult to make look good in CMYK. |

CMYKG? Cool.
However i meant adding some kind of special "fullbright" incs. Fluorescent, neon, or whatever they come up with.. It should be possible, if not now - then in near future. |

Yes, you can print in RGB. What you want are light jet, or photographic prints. Basically, regular photo paper is exposed to a CRT and you get an image that looks exactly like what would be displayed on a monitor, with no dots of ink. It's essentially a photograph of a digital file.
www.photoaccess.com uses this method. _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |

They have (essentially) infinite resolution, and will last 75 or more years when kept under glass. Highly recommended. If you go that route though, definitely get matte finish paper instead of glossy. _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |

yep, glossy looks cheap somehow (just got a few) also, choose your company well, somewhere that'll reprint easily enough if it doesn't come out exactly like the original, most photodevelopers offer the service for digital photography now, be good if you have one locally where you can see it being done (i sent off to hertfordshire for mine - about 300miles away, 6 came back overexposed, they're good about a refund but i'm still running the risk ordering again, looking a little closer to home), quality, apart from that has been pretty stunning, almost certain that it's the same process that DA/zazzle use
(not to say that link isn't, never used them, heard from a few sources that they're damn good but i'd still like to see it done infront of me, which is quite feasible given the growth of the service) |

you can have CMYK+as many solid colours you want inc. metallic - as long as you/your client is willing to foot the bill for the print
http://www.pantone.com/products/products.asp?idArea=1&bShowProducts=1 << check out pantone's website for solid colours
