I've got to do an arcylic portrait for my art class, but it has a catch. I am required to take an aspect from a known artist's work and incorporate it into mine. I also have to write a short essay about this person. I didn't know that initially, so I headed over to the sijun boards for inspiration. I found a few portraits I liked, but unfortunately sjiun artists don't fall into the category that my teacher wants. So she said trace the style back to someone more well known. (Personally, I think I should be able to write about anyone, especially sijun folks, all well.) So here goes- I compliled some images- If anyone can think of a well known artist that has used a simllar style, please tell me. Much appreciated!

Left- Torstein Nordstrand: sort of a cross hatching contour style
Top- Toast!: Simplified shapes of color
Bottom: Farley13: I don't know how to describe it, but if I can find a famous artist who did something similar, that's good enough
Left: I could not locate the artist's name again: Lots of angled strokes and such

If there's no one else that has done this stuff, then congratulations, I suppose, on creating a whole new style.

Torstein Norstrand's crosshatching is very reminiscent of Albrecht Durer's work.

Toast!'s is probably most heavily influenced by Sargent, though that point is arguable.

Farley13's use of color goes back to Andy Warhol, though I'm positive there are artists who pre-date him.

Right artist's: This picture looks a whole lot like Edward Hopper's Self-Portrait (1903).
