Before continuing to experiment with using digitally distorted photos as underpainting for final images, I thought I'd see if I could still simply do a totally eyeballed picture - no tracing, no sampling, just using a photo reference. So, here's a self portrait done that way - just eyeballed. It's been several years since I've done a portrait this way.
details:
The photo reference:
OK... now back to the serious work of using the digital medium the way it's meant to be used... cheat, cheat, cheat... -- just joking. I don't consider digital tracing, filtering or sampling as cheating. They're just some of the incredible options available with this extraordinary medium. I may try this same reference photo using the distorted photo underpainting method I've been working with - It'll certainly go faster (the above version took about 10-12 hours), but I'd like to see how it ends up... if it looks any different. _________________ HonePie.com

I think it's great. It has much personality!!
The way you do your other portraits (distorted photos) is quite okay I think
'cause the results really show alot of style and are much more interesting than the photo itself. Eyeballing is better practise thought |

NeFF... Yea... the hand and arm were weird... I've made some changes and it's better, but still off... I may work on it some more... I think it even looks odd in the ref photo... maybe its the angle. _________________ HonePie.com

The hand's off, but I dig the face a lot. Do some more like this one Phil.

Ps. Did you get your copy of "How to do everything in Photoshop Cs" yet? You're tutorial and mine are back to back. Pretty cool huh? I also did the aliens on the cover that are shown pointing at Colin's car, but they were massively art directed, so I had to draw them kinda cartoonie and "cute". Oh well, a fun experience non the less. _________________ l i q u i d w e r x |
