I just purchased a 9x12 Wacom Intuos 2 Platinum and have tried using it within CorelDRAW 12, PHOTO-PAINT 12, and Painter 8. What I'm hoping I can reveal is a way to paint in a full-screen mode. Without toolbars of any kind, where the ENTIRE tablet's real estate may be used without going out of boundary.

Also, it doesn't seem like I can reach half the detail of a real pencil on paper. Am I missing something here, or is this normal with a tablet? It's not as precise as I would like it to be.

paint @ a higher res.. make sure your tablet is away from anything that can cause interferance - ie ur monitor, desk lamp, speakers etc..

it takes a little getting used to b4 u can produce something that your happy with

That's just the thing though. I have this transparency overlay thing that allows me to put a picture inside the tablet, right? Sounds pointless if when I touch my pen to her eyeball, it points at her lips on the screen. Point being, only way I find this transparency thing to be usefull is if I stay zoomed at the same level. Otherwise, my pen points at the wrong spot. Any way to still make use of this transparency overlay?

Here's a tip -not strictly related to your specific problems, but in keeping with the thread title.

I've often wished that graphics tablets for "artists" would have some of the functionality of tablets used for CAD programs, i.e. lots of hot cells on the tablet itself.

To get around this in Photoshop ( most programs have actions/scripts/macros? ) I use one of the existing hotcells to toggle the actions palette, which I have set to button mode and sized to cover the whole screen. This way I can have 200 or more functions on the tablet alone.

ahh you want to trace a picture... this will only work well on a large tablet.. easiest way to trace the image is to scan it in and use another layer to do ur paintover if thats what you want to do of course

I found the same thing, with it not being as precise. First thing i did was take off the bulky "nosecone" on the pen, second was to remap the tablet so I actually having to move my arm less, which was a lot more like I was used to. (please don't ask why I have a 9x12 if I don't use 100% of it, its a long and painful story)

Try playing with the pressure settings as well.

sounds like you have it set on mouse mode, there's a way to set it so that the area on ur tablet is corresponds to your screen. So it solves your drawing on eye but actually drawing on lip problem. My control panel is all messed up and won't open so I can't give you specifics. But if I remember correctly there's a mapping tab in control panels/wacom. check that. set your tip feel to your own pressure too. To get super nice clean pencil like lines, sketch and then zoom in a little to draw the final line. You can get really nice pencil lines with the pencil tool in painter. Good luck.
