hey guys. i suck with color... so i don't want to screw this up when i color it in. can someone give me suggestions? i'm thinking warm values of red and orange mainly.... possibly a sunset in the right top to counter-balance the horrible compsition (i didn't really think it thru, just kept drawing shrooms and termite caves because they are fun )
anyways here is the ink
and here are some examples of my horrid coloring skills...

This is a strong image. I like the compostion.
I really like how clean your images look.
Colored as well as the lineart.
I don't think I can help with the color choice.
You chose good colors in the other images.
But maybe try to think about the effect that light sources and environment have on the local color.
To relate them better.
Maybe that's your style and you want to keep that up though?
Showing the local colors only?
Then I'd still try to separate the area of interest from the other parts of the image
(with more contrasts and saturation for example)
I think snakecharmer.jpg works pretty well ... in the other one the wrong things get the attention. IMHO! _________________ http://www.conceptworld.org |

I'm no expert at it myself, but a few things came to mind that you might be able to work with -
a. using spacial devices such as desaturation to add depth - as things go further back, they get less and less saturated - still trying to get good w/ that myself.
b. adding more depth to each object - for example, instead of say, painting trees all one color with bits of a slightly darker color (refer to your linked pics), maybe you could have a variety of darker colors and place them around to make the form seem rounded out
c. going along w/ b. - choosing a light source would really help you define the forms more, and that would add more depth.
d. here's a neat thing to do - instead of using one type color for a certain area - for example, if you were painting trees, using only brown - try using a variety of colors (but not TOO many and not too many in a chaotic way) to capture overall the color you're trying to get - example: if you were to paint skin, instead of painting it all peach with a tannish shadow, using light yellow, pink, orange, purple, etc all together to capture "skin" - maybe you could look around and really disect the colors you see in compositions instead of the overal color feel you get.
hope i'm making sense, and hope that helps a little - good luck, neat pic _________________ ~a shadow, a moment, a memory-- a monument, a legend, a legacy~ |
