Matthew, no please, not oil. Anything but that.

Talking about the acrylic version of a digital sketch, few pages back.

Flush, that is interesting; I have had a number of people wanting to buy it! I think there is a premium on a real painting, as you put it. Trying to get people to put digital painting on an equal footing with analog is like trying to get them to put watercolor with oils. Make all the sense you want, not gonna happen.

But thanks for the offer, I am flattered! But I think I will hang onto this one, as someone around here likes it too.

Eyewoo, I am too cheap to experiment with an 8 foot print, but I have learned a lot from painting with acrylic. There are things you can do with paint that you cannot do in digital, and vice versa. What I am going to do is speed paint, paint it 20*30 in acrylic (fast), then scan it in a piece at a time, and toy with it digitally. The file will be 9000 pixels high, with all that painty goodness captured. To build up that kind of density (and specific to the painting, not a texture that has to be wrestled with) digitally is very painful. The digital tools do not work well for me at that scale. This way I can get the best of both worlds, and a high rez detailed file that should print well. Whadddya think?

Thanks swarm!

Matthew, time to learn about form and cast shadows. Try to find info on it on your own, but if you cant find anything, I will try to help.

Spyroteknik, the lighting is a digital trick that could easily be put back into the image. But I agree that it is a much stronger image.

Klash, I am really sorry, I have so many things coming at me my head is spinning. I really hate not being able to respond to people, I bet they hate me, but there is only so much I can do as one person. I am down really to one forum and pretty much one thread in one forum to try to corral things as much as I can. I looked through my inbox, nothing from that mail you mentioned. Send it again, I will respond, promise.

Retro, that value study looks nice from where I am sitting

Two more watercolors for the pile

Spooge... Sounds like a plan. When you get that big digital file that'll print well, check out a Photoshop tutorial on "Printing big prints from little printers." It's a system I worked out to prototype big prints before actually having them printed on an Iris or large format Epson. The cost is minimal - paper, ink and tape (plus time of course).

Tutorial: printing big from little printers

zhuzhu, wow nice there dude.

Spooge, hehe, it would be cool though to see how you would tackle that same painting in oil.
Cast Shadow and form, yes you are right there will see what I can do.
U know Spooge I owe you a lot so perhaps I can wash your car sometime hehe. Smile
Very nice wcs btw, that second one is the most awesome one I have seen from you.

Capt.Flush, me likes your experiments.

I have been looking at some illustrations from that book "Treasure Island" (the old version) and there is some cool work in that book indeed. I think the illustrators name was Charles Mozley.
This one is inspired by the cover but I made my own version and joked with it a little bit, perhaps bad since my humour isnt of this world.

Throwing in one of my latest sketchbook pages too. Smile
