Ok this is what it comes down to people and you have entered the Lord Of The Rings themed thread.
I made a speed-painting earlier which was inspired by Bennets and Lasaines work from the book of "Two Towers", the picture beneath is the final version.

*The idea with this thread is that all episodes is included and your pictures can be everything from speedys to finished pieces and both digital and traditional work accepted.
You can use ref or do an inspired piece or perhaps come up with your own version of how a creature or character what would have looked like if you were making one for The Lord Of The Rings, last mentioned was Max Kulich idea, thx Max. Smile
Maybe we could post reference sources (urls) to help eachother out a bit with ref looking.

Heres one reference that I have, ironically it has exceeded its 20 gbs of daily limit today though, hopefully it will work tomorrow.Confused

Keep up the good work everyone
Matthew

Here's a piece I did for an Illustration assignment. I chose the Hobbit as my book to Illustrate. Assignment was to create a vignet in black and white. It's the "Battle of the Five Armies" from the end of the book. It's not LOTR but it's Middle Earth related! I'm a big LOTR nerd, I have lot's of little sketches I'll post later.

here's one of frodo i did exactly 1 year ago today.... its really scary that this thread would open today haha Very Happy

its the first thing i did on a WACOM tablet. It was the only thing i made using a Graphire2 (borrowed from a friend to test it out). After making this, I instantly ordered my Intuos2 6x8 and have never been happier.

Mcnasto, pretty cool with that one year ago thing.

I'm almost ashamed to post this, it looks like a child's scribble. Not ashamed enough though... =)

Great stuff everybody.
MCnasto: Amazing! Hope next year I'll redo this and be where you are now!

Had to give up ... tried about 10 times to start from scratch.
About 20 times I tried working from an earlier version.
Spend almost the whole day on this crap ...
It's what you get for trying to see and paint planes I guess. Crying or Very sad
Makes me want to give up ...

Mcnasto, that is very impressive there and I am glad you like the thread, keep the pictures coming. Smile

AndyT, I think you have done a fine job, as spooge showed you in the overpaint he made earlier, dont be afraid to push the values even more. If you see a little purple add it and then add a little bit more to see how much purple you can add. hehe maybe I am rambling but I wanted to give you some tip, hope it is ok. Smile

lucas, very nice drawings.

Very nice work everyone. Smile

Heres some Saruman picture where I played with the values a bit, ref used

Didn't you guys hear him? Keep the pictures coming Evil or Very Mad Wink

Matthew: Thanks. People do actually recognize her. I thought it was worse.
Guess it is accurate enough if you don't have the ref image to compare it with.
I think the value range is pretty big.
The shadows on her face are bright ... but it looked weird when I made them darker.

[edit]

I'll post another version in the speedpainting thread now.
The speedy took about 30 minutes. For this I worked on it for about 20 more minutes.
Plus 10 minutes for applying filters Embarassed
[/edit]

It's official, Spooge has no eyes.

Inspired by the wonderful Sabotage11 over at the CA orc thread.

The movies makes me sad too. They're pretty and cool, but don't do the books justice imho. Sadder still is how everyone is painting characters that look like the actors in the movie. You're artists! Read the books and use your imagination! Wink

Great stuff though Smile

Diruo: True! You're right.

Made an update on this guy. Sorry for the double post, but I'll let the earlier version stay, so people can see the difference.

This one wasnt planed as an LotR Fanart(but is a litte homage to it), so dont matter about the background. Normaly there was some more in the right part of this picture, but because it hasnt anything to do with the book/movie and dont look like somethink from the book/movie (like this balrog) I cut it of for this thread.
