one of my newyears resolutions was to make a background for eatch one of my pics rather then punk out and leave it white. im not very used to doing backgrounds at all.. so i was wondering if i could get some suggestions/ paintovers of what you think might make it look better without destracting from the dragon.

Making him stand on a ledge of a tower would be really cool... the brown will really bring out the dragon _________________ Feed the Homeless to the Hungry |

I think the values work.
The color makes background and foreground melt a little IMO.
Adding the complementary orange might help.
Less on the ground that is more affected by the sky...
more on the mountains.
I think in your version the sky looks like a very strong lightsource.
vecause of the low value range.
But the light on the dragon suggests that the other lightsource is stronger.
I guess that kinda makes the lighting difficult to understand.
I'd also try to do what Prometheus|ANJ does there:

To make it read better ... less busy.
Here is what a quick complementary color job looks like:

Hehe ... now that I look at it again it really looks a lot like your style XIA
Thought the same when MON pointed out an image of spooge that he liked a lot.
Does that mean the colors in the original are better btw?
Please stop me then!
I'll take everything back ... _________________ http://www.conceptworld.org |

andy thank you. you have been a bigger help then you know. and thank you for the link. your version does infact look easyer to look at. and its true.. i did detail my drawing up too much. also, the complimentary colors and the flatening of noise is a good idea. _________________ -chris
