I realize that I may be opening a gigantic can of worms here, but I'm so curious I can't help but ask.
What painting program do you think is best to use? What version?
I noticed that Dhabih said he used photoshop 3.05. Is there a particular reason to use that version of photoshop? |

It's your own choose.
Peronally i use paintshop pro 8, because i like an easy handling.
But remind, its not the tool you use, its your skill which will create the pictures.
Whatever, follow the suggestions of the other members, i'm just a noob. _________________ *

As far as PS vs. Painter, there have been a ton of discussions about that, so for an in-depth comparison I'd suggest looking up some older threads. Generally though, for beginners I'd recommend PS. As far as different versions of PS... I'm pretty sure Dhab doesn't use 3.05 anymore, nor anyone else... Most of this site hasn't been updated in about 4 or 5 years. Right now, PS7 is the best, if your computer can handle it. If not, try 5. I haven't tried 6, but it's my understanding that the brush system was a little awkward, which has been remodeled in PS7. Plus with PS7 you get all the new brushes and textures. |

Addendum: By PS I mean Photoshop, not Paint Shop. |

Isn't photoshop cs better than photoshop 7 in regards to speed and manipulating images tinusch? Isn't every new version of Photoshop better than the old ones in some way? why else have a new version, to just cash in? Nothing personal, just me thinking loud |

there isnt really an answer. different programs are good for different things. I like photoshop for the begining and end of a piece and painter for the grunt work in the middle.
photoshop = very good airbrush, detail, resize, lighting ect
painter = good for well, painting. it imitates realistic mediums. great for blending ect. |

there's no point in getting PS 6, it's almost exactly the same as 7, well i didnt really use 6, i was on 5.5, used 6 a few times, then switched to 7, which im using now, i gotta try out painter, but without a tablet, i doubt it'll be of much use, but still, i want to see the brushes and features
(do not ask me how i acquired my copy of PS) _________________ Derelict Studios|Godwin's Space |

Painter 7 with a good tablet is the best program to paint and Photoshop 7 is the best to adjust colors, but don`t forget, it`s are only tools.
Don`t exaggerate in effects and pluggins. |

Opencanvas 3 and a Wacom tablet. I also have Painter 8 and Photoshop 7, but I use Opencanvas almost exclusively. _________________ van |
