I dont see anything wrong with this one (Capt.Flushs piece beneath). Some people and I have had a wild discussion about this in the chat and I think some dudes are way to obsessed with anatomy as what I think, in speedys anyway. Is really the anatomic parts the most important thing in a speedy-piece?
For me a speedy is to put down an idea and then you have something to work with, a very good way to experiment with both colors and light.
It is very rare to see other comments than anatomy and such all the time, where is all the thoughts of color and balance in pictures?
Spooge Demon, I would like to hear your opinion about anatomy in Speedys, something that is never mentioned but it seems be huge of importance for some dudes.
Would you say that anatomic parts in a speedy is 50% important or more important or less important?
a hand as far as I know could be only a color blob in a speedy.
This is not directed to any of you guys in here in the speedy but it is comments that I have got either in pms or in chats. And yes my anatomy sucks and I am still working on it.
ok back to being suck.

[2 cents]I think the arm is a lot better in the overpaint. Looks strong ... like a leg in the original. That's why I think the overpaint is good.
I agree that it happens that people follow the rules too strictly ... like I always did. Not just anatomical things.
If it doesn't look as good as it could it can be mentioned IMO. There's no harm ... and it's not an insult.
If breaking the rules makes the image better ...
then I won't say that I found an error in the future.[/2 cents]

Matthew - I believe that it's in each owns interest what is most "important" when it comes to a speedpaint, or any paint. (As long as the paint is not a job, then it's probably in your best interest to satisfy the customer, yadda.) However, John asked what he was doing wrong when he was doing characters, and most of the time small flaws in anatomy (and facial structure) is the main thing to keep them (characters) from looking as good as they could. Atleast realistic human characters, as portrayed on the picture.
Just because you do something quick doesn't mean you have to blindly accept flaws that takes seconds to correct. Even though my stuff is full of flaws too (because I'm a lazy bastard), I try to keep the count down/as low as possible.
The less wrong - the more right, I like to think. |

CaptainFlush - Problem with your figures, the way I see it, isn't the anatomy. Well, there are some problems with the anatomy, but the main thing is a lack of fluidity. Poses are pretty static, and seem to be referenced from "posed" photographs. This makes all anatomical errors stand out worse, because the figure's stiffness already makes it look unnatural. If you try drawing first the lines of action and then building up the forms, you will be able to get more dynamic figures. Once you have action and interest, you can get away with a lot more anatomical liberties. I have seen you use this principle with perspective in scenes, so you should be able to adapt it easily to figure drawing. Also, softening out some of the angles of limbs and features might help--thinking more in terms of curves than lines. Look at the Mannerists' work for an exaggerated example of this.
Sorry for lame & sketchy advice, and also for posting without putting a drawing, but I just got out of bed and now I'm going back. (Still sick, dammit.) Anyhow. I'm no spooge, but hope that helps. _________________ Dignity isn't important. It's everything.

Oh my this was certainly not my purpose with the post above to judge captns work or anyone elses.
I just think the attention in crits sometimes is in the wrong places and especially when I have gotten crits with my 5 minutes doodles, I guess that is what bugs me.
see, nice girl, heres one more. (ref used)

@flush: i agree with what was said about the issue so far. just try painting more humans than environments/machines in the next couple months and you're a big step forward. i think you just lack the experience with the figure that you already got with the rest of the stuff. |

remove the eyes
matthew, cool girl, dude!
captflush garden. nice see you back . I think it depends (as Socar Myles said) that most figures look very stiff (I have difficult times to get natural poses too) Redraw shapes untill you get satisfied even over 100000 times
damn good works here.. ohh |

drunken_muse: imse vimse(it's spider from a swedish children's song ), yaya
capt fred: I really like your future shopping centre image, I really like the way you descriped the motion of the people with a few brushstrokes, you can really see what people are doing, awsome
matthew: one thing that seems odd with twith allmost all your characters is their eyes and sometimes the whole head. In your latest the hair looks realistic, and the neck too but the eyes are looking symetrical and have a strong black outline. Hum I should really start painting people, really
Edit: aw, whatever, I did say I needed to practis faces, didn't I, overpaint:
what happens if you put an person who doesn't know how to paint with acrylic in a badly lit room, so he can't see really see what colours he's picking, together with a chrismas tree

OK, scanned some damn thing to justify my earlier lamearsed no-image post. Don't like this one. Looks better flipped the other way. Seems like cheating, though. Pity I can't flip the original.
THE BAD DOLL
This doll is bad. It doesn't eat people or steal stuff or come to life at night and make a giant mess. It just sits on its shelf with its plastic berries bobbing and sparkling, and stares at you in that creepy-arsed way it has. It makes you want to smash it. Bad doll. _________________ Dignity isn't important. It's everything.

Goddamnit, all that text & IE crashed. T-T

bjotto > Yeah, knowing that song is just one of many perks we've gotten being born swedes. ;)
varg gally0 & xia > thank you kindly. And oh varg, about that homepage, well.. I've put my laziness to the task, it's my strongest trait & is yet to fail me. Let's just see what happens. ;)
Now, on to the art.
This one took a little longer than the others (mostly due to the extra props), but I'll try a little harder to keep the time down on the upcoming ones. Prom contributed with this bug to the bug-pool, a dung beetle (scarab).
Who needs trenches? Roll some crap for cover & squeeze of some supressive fire - Life's great as a bug commando.
