zhuzhu, keep up the good work, very nice indeed.

The guys over in the chat are really killing me, yesterday they had a fight all in the name of fun but I got inspired somehow and I llustrated this fight with this painting.

btw I got tired of that signature I had earlier so maybe I can just throw in a quick signature every now and then.

Capt.Fred, watmough, many thanks there guys.

Thanks Capt.Fred and Briscola.

Capt.Fred> that sci-fi pic with blue floor has a great atmosphere, good stuff!
StylesDavis> nice fish!

Thanks to Vance Kovacs, I'm trying some colors again. His tutorial was just what I've been looking for and what any beginning artist like me can appreciate.

I wanted to keep this simple.

swarm > thanks for the comment, glad you liked it. I like your girl-designs alot, tobad I'm lost without subtitles when it comes to french. ;<
briscola > nice jungle! a little lack of focus, but I really like what's going on among the trunks n leaves.

I have no excuse for this except I think my fever has gotten to me. I couldn't decide if I was to make a samurai or a tech marine so it ended up looking like a gigantic red beetle with a gun. My only regret is that I didn't pose him the other way so I could draw big dots on his back.

thanks mikko!
always good to see more winners from swarm.

drunken_muse -> yes, you're quite right. the jungle study was one of a series of generic 'jungle wall boundary' concepts. your stuff rocks by the way.
drunken monkey, great too! all these drunks are so great.

here's a ship design of mine that a hw2 modder named unicron started to model. at his request I overpainted a screenshot of his model to complete the back. this was a fun speedpaint!

I think it might be that you should take a slightly different approach/mentality when doing characters--especially attractive females. I've seen many accomplished artists who can paint incredible landscapes, still life, vehicles..etc, but when it came to characters or attractive women, they flounder. You can say that painting is painting, and the universal rules apply to everything. I think a statement like that is a bit broad, because there are idiosycrasies within each element and subject.

For example, you tend to use more scattered brush work, in a loose manner that's impressionistic. I would suggest maybe consolidate your brush work a bit when doing characters--mainly areas where the flesh shows. On clothing and ornaments, it's not as important. I think it's because flesh in general create a sense of wholeness--with consistent surface texture and even falloff rates when reacting to light--a certain sheen and creaminess if you will. There's also subsurface scattering going on that's best shown by less scattered brush work.

briscola that ship is sweet!

Frost!.. Cool colors. When ,essing aroudn with the gradient tool in PS one can achieve something of that look. I've always wanted to paint something in that look from scratch.. you looks to have done that Smile

Mikko K, briscola : thanks, glad you liked it :)
briscola : that ship is awesome, but what's up with the split model? It ends there?

No excuses for this one either, I thought I might as well do a whole troop. :>
