I haven't done much art as of late, but decided to give it another go. I've never really had any formal instruction in art, digital or otherwise, comments/suggestions/recommendations/critiques welcome.

What do you mean where did the hair come from? I made it. So I guess my hand, my brain, my art tablet, and photoshop... oh and my pc Wink I don't really understand your question.

cow means that your skill is questionable at painting of hair when you did paint the face which is not even in same level as hair-painting or "photo-montage" Cool

if you didnt anything wrong or not copying, so I think that your painting of hair is just awesome

ah, honestly, I've always sucked at hair, and was trying something new. Didn't really care too much about the rest, just wanted to make hair that didnt look like ... well a blob.

nice to know that the first bit of artwork I post in a forum I get accused of stealing someone else's artwork... makes a guy feel really welcome and such. I'll be sure to post my next "plagerism"

If you're serious about art, next time draw the entire face. Since you're learning, it's important to learn the proportions of a head and that's hard to do if you're only drawing part of one. Also, don't draw on lined paper. It looks like you're not serious about what you're doing and didn't bother to find paper without lines. Either that, or you were bored in class and started drawing. If you happen to end up with a good sketch on lined paper that you want to take further, take out the lines in PS. It makes a big difference in the quality of the final piece.

Also, if you're ever accused of some type of cheating or copying but you didn't do that, just take it as a compliment. It's better than them saying that your art sucks.

Ah thank you for the critique.. few things though, the picture started as a sketch of an eye on the side of my notes during class, then It graduated to a face, or half of one due to lack of paper. I just liked how the original sketch looked so I decided to digitize it. Also, the background is actually a texture fill that looks like lined paper. I had a white background, then decided to go with black, then they both just looked so plain, and I suck even more with landscaping or background art. So I decided to make it look like lined paper and the original sketch because I think its a neat concept. You would normally see some sort of real life media, ie pens or pencil, on lined notebook paper, but instead having some piece from photoshop seems out of place, hence different from everyone else, which Im sure we all strive for to some degree. Wink Anyway, just messing around. Thanks again,

If anyone knows of a really good tutorial on skin tones and actual stroke techniques and methods I would be much obliged. Thanks!
