The reason I think this 'user ignore' mod is stupid is not because I am worried about who's going to ignore me.
I just think it's completely stupid. And it's probably stupid of me to say that, go ahead put me on you ignore list, but surely you can just 'not read the post'. Why do you need software to hide it from you eyes? And anyway, why can't you just choose to not react if it's causing you trauma or irritation?
I don't need someone to remove all the books I'm not going to read from a library. I don't need software to disallow me from accessing sites on the internet that I don't like. It's a like a childish argumentative thing, like some kid putting a cereal box between him and his sibling at a breakfast table because "la la la, I'm not listening".
I just don't want a nice community and atmosphere to come to harm by changing things which aren't a problem (for me at least), is all. |

Well I know I'd ignore at least 4 people.
Those who post tits as eyes for example ...
and those who use filters mostly ...
Artists who write comments in themed threads without pictures ...
Especially the themed threads would be much cooler. _________________ http://www.conceptworld.org |

Matthew:
If necessary I could write a mod. I tried it locally and it seems to work.
You could see who ignores you in the Profile:

"Foes." "These guys hate you!" Excellent. ( I know your just joking though)
I think it would foster an EXCELLENT adversarial(sic) atmosphere and create AS MUCH animosity as is humanly possible. YAY!
These 8 people ignored me, so Ill ignore them. AND these other 4 people I dont like.
other 4 People
Hey? He is ignoring ME? Well Ill ignore HIM! And these other three people.
"New Post"
Post your Ignore List here!!
YEAH FOR THE FUTURE OF SIJUN!
( sarcasm and perspective, not my strong suit but I think you get my point..)
I dont think it matters who ignores who. The whole thought of it is pretty lame to me. I wouldnt ignore anyone. Im sure Id be ignored, but I wouldnt care who did it regardless, nor is it my business to know. It will become VERY confrontational VERY fast. The internet is not comprised of the most MATURE groups of people in the world, and Im sure there is a huge contingency who would be very offended to find out Joe Blow is ignoring them. The PMS start flying, the Posts start happening...
All this seems pretty obvious to me.... |

So far I've only lightly parused the forums, I've been coming in off and on over the past two years whenever I feel I've got something worthy of showing the masses. I mean, I view this forum as holding the elite of the elite. It's awesome to see all the work around here, but why would you want to ignore someone? I haven't seen anyone overly disturbing.
Can anyone cite an instance where they'd ignore someone? It just seems a little harsh to me.
I'm not annoying, am I? ;) _________________ My art: www.jobocomic.net/art

If someone is obnoxious or offensive enough to deserve to be ignored, then the mods should take care of it. I don't see the need for an Ignore function. Like Maxmike said... Can anyone give an example of where it would be necessary to add someone to your Ignore list? |

I think that most people would not use the feature, but there are users who are always complaing to the moderators about "what he said" and "what he posted" blah blah, and that ignore thing would allow them to simply not see the people who annoy them. No more complaints.
But Cow is right - there's no way it would work to that effect if users could see who was ignoring them, so that feature wouldn't be enabled.
I don't think it would be used as much as some people here think. It would just let a few people streamline the forum to their tastes. _________________ Art Links Archive -- Artists and Tutorials |

The ignore mod is weird somehow. I'd wait for the new version of the board with that feature.
In the mod "Buddy of... Ignored by... Disallowed by... " is already included.
And there are these ugly smilies under the member data in each post ...
But I'm with Matthew. If people write (long?) comments because they don't know they are being ignored that would suck.
I get the "ignore happy atmosphere scenario" ... but at Sijun?
I tried to install the mod though and my board doesn't work any more.
When I have time I'll try again with a new phpBB board.
At least the avatar and signature mod is tested now and works nicely.
Is there anybody with more mod-installing-experience? _________________ http://www.conceptworld.org |

Drew: hmm... well, you are actually right. Doesnt make a difference whether one knows for sure that he gets ignored or he only thinks he might. If someone is ignoreing you this function wont make it worse for you.
So just ignore my previous posts here. I wasnt thinking.
(Damn, did I just write "ignore me"? ) |

I think I don't really get what the buddy, ignore and disallow mod does!?
http://andyart.de/develop/phpBB/index.php
It is installed there now ... but posts by the ignored users are still there.
Does anybody get what that mod does or if it just doesn't work as it should?
Does anybody know another ignore mod?
[edit]
That's what the ignore function officially should do:
When User A is ignoring User B...
- User B cannot view some of User A's contact information (PM and email links) in the member list, topics, and profile.
- User B cannot send private messages or email (via the board) to User A.
- User A will not see User B in the member list or 'who is online' list on the board index and will not see User B's posts in topics.
- User A will not see topics started by User B if they have no replies or only one reply (which has to be by a user ignored by User A).
- On pages that hide something regarding User B from User A, User A will see a link that allows User A to view the page including whatever was hidden.

You mean moving your threads or posts at Sijun?
That is not possible. You'd have to send a PM to a moderator.
Or finding a topic you posted?
There's a link in your profile
It says
Find all posts by vindow
If you mean a topic by another member then just go to his/her profile and click the link.
But searching should work ... what exactly are you trying to do?
If that is not what you meant maybe try to explain in other words
Or is the problem solved already? _________________ http://www.conceptworld.org |

I am gonna write a little script that will go through the forum and post randomly generated sentences about nothing in every thread. I think ~1000 a day would be sufficient. Its name will be Bartholomew. Lets see you all beg for the ignore feature then!
Heheh. Its not an issue anymore in my opinion. But that was the original motivation for asking to have an ignore function. _________________ "A fear of weapons is a sign of retarded sexual and emotional maturity" - Sigmund Freud |

Yeah, I'd still like to get an ignore tool working, but the plugin we were looking at didn't really work the way you would hope. So we're going to wait for the next version of phpBB which, by all reports, sounds like it will be a huge improvement over this current version. _________________ Art Links Archive -- Artists and Tutorials |
