C, I would say ID is more important to me than Illustration. There are some important caveats. Look at how Trans guys draw figures. Nuffsaid. With the exception of the life/figure classes, Illustration was kind of a wasteland. BUT, look at the work I do, and it is not very conceptual, depends more on traditional drawing and painting. The illus program was trying it best to get people to do anything but more airbrush ad Ill, anything but Loomis, anything to move illustration forward Matt Mahurin was the golden standard. Before you think I am being sarcastic, I am not, really. It is a little sad that all of my ID cohorts are doing well in the profession they were trained for, but my illo ones are not working much at all, with a few exceptions. Art Center is gambling, for its own glory, to produce an original illustrator, The One how can fly and hang in galleries and get the respect of fine artists that they crave so much. Never underestimate the inferiority complex of the illustration world. I am a shining example! But you have to go through a lot of lost failures to get the peach.

I was glad to have the Illo training that I had, it made me a better artist, certainly more aware. But it left me with not enough skills. I guess there is only so much you can cram into one program. Take classes in both programs! They dont like this, a Frankenstein like me might result. But push all you can. And remember, dont depend on anyone or any school to learn you what you need. The best people are the ones who suck the information out of a place, who look for it. The failures are the ones who sit back and whine that the program is no good.

I did take some classes art California Art Institute, mostly for information of technique. You could do the same.

The class that was so great in ID was the basic shapes and lighting class. It was called Industrial drawing then, now with correct speak that calls a library a learning center it was renamed VisCom 1, or Visual Communications 1. Not very pretentious at all, IMHO. Dont know what it is called now.

I haven't done much speed work for a few months so I need to shake of the dust a little.

Spooge, sorry about me keep copying your style, just a few more then I will start on another style.

I made a quick sketch in school so this one only took about 15 minutes to color.

I know, I know. This is just blatant overuse of oversaturated colors and contrast. But, well, I was in a playful mood

Great work everyone.

I started doing a speedpainting but it wasn't even worth spending the time posting so here is something from the archives.
An almost two year old drawing (AND IT'S NOT EVEN A SPEED PAINTINg - SORRY!!!)

I had the "abstract" setting up high on that last one, about 90. This one is dialed back to 38.

Dali Lama? Hmmm I just know they are going to catch that guy with his pants around his ankles in a motel in Inglewood.

no problem prismacolor, spread the pain is my motto

Spooge :
Do you often adjust your picture's brightness/contrast settings when painting the dark areas? So that you paint the darks brighter than the final image is going to be?

I'm curious because you seem to have so much content in the darks, while many people paint too much black in shadows imho. I'd really appreciate if you could answer me.

btw. sorry for no pic, been too busy with work stuff I can't show Sad

Cool work everyone.

I'm new to this whole forum but I got here for improvement, so I might as well just post stuff.
This was done in 30 minutes which is REALLY quick for me. I'm the slowest artist out there! =) Ahem...
Anyway... His one fin is off but it was a quicky and it got a little out of hand.

PS. I just changed my name. Might change it back. I'm a little whimsical sometimes ^_^ I mean... Even "Oracle" isn't that interesting.

Fiend: That rocks! =)

This was done in about 13 mins. I still suck. Very Happy Especially when it comes to blood (the red mess. I felt like blood)

I know that girl! Saw her in the Kill Bill trailer.

How come everyone loves an ugly girl like that? Asian girls get WAY prettier.

Said a girl. Who is not pretty herself. *shame*

Practicing cityscapes has made me sad, since I'm so lousy at it. To make myself feel better, I started this. I'll probably work it to completion eventually, but here's the quick version.
