Not that my nickname is terribly interesting, or that anyone really cares, but there is something of a history to it. First, I'm very fond of birds (so much so that i can't bear to see them caged). Second, i always liked the story "The Ugly Duckling" growing up because it used to give me hope that i may one day grow up to be pretty (i've never been a very good looking person and was mercilessly teased and abused by my peers because of it). Then one day i woke up at the age of 25 and looked in the mirror and realized that i was never going to be pretty and i wrote the following poem:
Drab, dirty, dusty brown
I am the wren, the sparrow
The merlin, unable to make a sound
Plain, unlovely, simple am I
But now my wings, my hopes
Have been clipped, I cannot even fly
Gawky, awkward, clumsy bird
Im a disgrace to myself
Shamefully absurd
Ugly ducklings have nothing on me.
For I am not the Swan,
And never will be.
Well after that, Wren, Sparrow and Merlin became common character names in my role playing and when i started playing Ultima Online several years ago, my first character there was Wren SharpBeak. Unlike in the real world, on the internet i could be judged by my personality and not my looks and as a result my UO alter ego came to be quite liberating for me. Anyway, the name Wren has stuck with me ever since. _________________

dfacto, which was d-facto or d_facto, which comes from de facto which means
adj.
Exercising power or serving a function without being legally or officially established: a de facto government; a de facto nuclear storage facility.
I shortened it for the hell of it. _________________ It has been clinically proven that other people's pain IS funny. |

There was a story by mark twain I remember, with a crow called "Nevermore"
That was my first Nick, but because of my lazyness I decieded to call myself "nev" and then "neff" ![Laughing](images/smiles/icon_lol.gif) _________________ *

Well, since I'm VERY new here, I don't really have an original name... My full name is Marianne (I'm Dutch) and some people in high school decided in the first weeks that my name was too long to pronounce all the time. They were REALLY LAZY friends.
So they called me Mari.
And since I'm into Japanese, I've also discovered that "mari" means ball. But if anyone ever tries to use me for a game of tennis or something, I'll sue your asses =P
I've had loads of other nicknames, but this is the one people use on me daily, lol. I've been called Chisha a long time (it means lettuce... Japanese too) cause it was a character I had... But fortunately, that name only remains in my email address.
On MSN Messenger I'm Kohana now cause it's a newer, more favourite character of mine... She's so cool Some people call me that.
But most online people call me Mari, Chisha (the ones I've known longer) and there's also "nemutai" or "nemu" for short... cause my deviantART nickname is nemutai-kunoichi. (Sleepy female ninja. Hell yeah )
Why am I telling you guys all this? It's not like you're interested! =P |

Much more interesting thread than I would have thought.
I'm a Californian transplanted to a tiny rural town in VA. I jokingly told my family that we needed names like "Bobby Sue" and "Jimmy James".
Jimmyjimjim is what stuck. ![Wink](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |

klaivu is a common finnish word for a person engaging in incestuous sex, like 'motherfucker', but with a wider range of relatives involved. |

my nick is, of course, a "modification" of miles davis, this famous soul singer or so... because jazz has a lot to do with hiphop and because i am very hiphop, which means grafitti-influenced, i chose that one out of a bunch of names a german rapper invented 4 himself some years ago... ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) _________________ known as "ChrisNix" elsewhere. |

I actually wanted to be named "friend" but I was in a hurry and I forgot the "r". But some english guy told me that Fiend meant the same thing as friend, so that was pretty lucky.
By the way - come join the - Draw a Sijun Forum name Thread - at Gallery/Finished Work. We need some drawings. _________________ Yeah man but it's a dry heat... |

about 5 years ago me and my buddy steve got drunk one day and started a new language called "UNGLASH" (stupid words and phrases to add to our boring english language) ie.
"Boobs" = "Jugglebombers"
"Kitten" = "Whiskerbaby"
"Dog" = "Sniffer bowbow"
Santa Claus = "Jolly old McNickelstash"
we then started thinking up words with no apparent meaning such as dubblegome, chombyberstook, elastic-key fobber.... etc.
and one day we were on a roll, and i said some sentence and i said "mcnasto" in it. (not McNasto , pronounced M.C. Nasto)
and it just stuck to me. so i used it as my nick, and my company name and watnot...
now in the later years we continue to get stupider but more complex:
"Take a Shit" = "Blast a Neon Fancy"
"posture smatchdown upperstacks"
"throb-tempo halfchlaker"
"lobbmaster flamboyber"
"fliphannibal tripan changepony"
fliphannibal was the most recent hehe.
ever since, we've been adding to it... and thats the story of my name, and you just got stupider reading it. ![Wink](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) _________________ "Man! I just noticed that I write a lot of fragment sandwiches!" |

Sorry to say, friend, but you've been lied to. _________________ QED, sort of. |
