Okay, might be a bit controversial.
If you hate it for that, let me know.
Painting this felt like a routine job - worked more on
the story than the art. The english might suck, since
it was hastily translated and thrown in.
Comments and crits welcome, particularly on the story.

I concur
I don't hate it, I just very much dislike the subject. I looked at the first few cells and skimmed through the rest and saw it got more brutal.
I don't know, some people might like it. |

Not really sick, so much as basic peta-esque, shock-value enhanced activist commentary. The animals themselves look quite well done to me, and look as though they could be applied to illistration for a childrens book or something, provided the message is altered to make it slightly more palatable to the youngens. |

Well. I like the art. the story lacks -- kinda switches its main point alot.... _________________ Her eyes were cold and harsh....which made them hard to chew. |

I love it. Great cynical, sadistic humor, though a bit of it seems lost in translation.
Excellent illustrations as well.

i'd have to agree with ittybad, the subject changes rather frequently, and i had some trouble understanding the story's theme; it was an amusing romp through each panel tho, and you did a top notch job on the art. |

Mm. A nice throng of comments.
Falldamage: "basic peta-esque, shock-value enhanced activist commentary" ..
Ouch. I like the taste of meat. I'm no activist. Don't confuse me with that lot.
I just like cruel things, and slaughtering animals sort of appeals to me.
Kiddies' illustrations? Aargh... my heart is bleeding.
Ittybad, Jerm: Yeah, I know what you mean. I feel that the general outline of
the story works, but the execution would have been nicer with concentrating on
a character or a situation at a time... I feel this is sort of "compressed". Would
have been better or even had more impact with some more pages, with less stuff.
Nobody cares if nasty things happen - you need to make people feel for the
characters first, and with that I think I failed.
There was some trouble with the translation - for example, the "tender" joke the
bull plays works better by far in finnish ( the word mature = well done, as in meat )
... though I got to name the simpleton butcher .. Butch. Hehheh.
Maybe some of the language is a bit awkward too, I don't know.
But I can't blame everything on that.
Hmm. And the bull ought to have kicked ms. Svinland unconscious instead of her
just spontaneously fainting. Would have been better.
CalicoRabbit: Too bad.
Thanks for liking it, everybody
Any other thoughts?
edit: and the bloody bull looks like a friggin' panda. arrghgbbbt. _________________ Why bother burning books ? Nobody reads them anyway... |

Heh, now that I read my comment again, I didn't mean it to be so, uhh, bitchy. I like the style and the composition; I just though it wasn't so shocking as some had imagined. Also, I didn't mean to insult you with the kiddie illistration thing, I think your art is realistically applicable to that market. |

very cool, very sick...! i couldn't get all the jokes, because my english isn't good enough to fish out all the subtle ones, but it was entertaining enough just to look at the cute-styled-pictures and the facial expressions in contrast to the splatter, eh he. hehe. he he he. ![Wink](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) _________________ known as "ChrisNix" elsewhere. |

Well, the artwork is first class, although I must admit I too thought the bull was a panda.
I've got to ask though, what are you getting at with the section about Down Syndrome? I am not really sure if you were being satirical/sarcastic/ironic here, but it was lost on me; I just found it upsetting to be honest. It doesn't strike me as the kind of subject matter to take lightly (I'm not saying you have taken it lightly, it's just, like I said before, lost on me in this context). Anyway, that's just my opinion of course.
Still, Sijun is an art forum, so I'll stick to that; excellent drawings, particularly the image where Butch slices the pigs' heads off. Reminds me of Marshall Law in a way

I absolutely fucking love the art. It's amazing. The story, I think has potential, but as people said, it needs to be clearer. During the first segment, it seemed like the whole idea was that even in the most desperate of circumstances, people (er...creatures) still find someone to feel superior to. By behaving cruelly and putting down someone weaker, they can forget they are also in pretty grim shape. Kind of like garbage artists making fun of artists who are even shittier.
The panels with all the flying heads and gore looked majorly cool.
Anyway, after all the bloodsplatter, that's when it seemed to lose focus, for me. There seemed to be a whole new theme going on, but there wasn't enough time to figure out what it was, or why you put it there. It was as if it should've been either two short stories, or one longer story with more exposition, so it would make sense.
The art, however, was bloody incredible. Knocked my socks off so much I didn't care about it not making a huge amount of sense. _________________ Dignity isn't important. It's everything.

This is rather well done. Not my type of art or story, but you kept me through the whole thing. I have to agree the story doen't seem to have a real theme, just seems stream of conscious. Nothing wrong with that though. |

Guess I'll pop in for another reply ..
FallDamage: Don't worry about it
LePensky: Well, I wasn't taking anything lightly. It was the uppity pig that did, right? I found a website a few years back that had this propaganda crusade of disabled, diseased and retarded being the way they are because it was the vengeange of the lord. You know, sins being punished to the second generation and so forth. I found it so hilariously idiotic I just had to use it somewhere.
Wow- the hairy hamsterman! Umm, maybe I'll have, once I get enough of this stuff done.
Socar: Thanks for thoughts - I have to agree with what you've said about the story, though I worry about the story not making a huge amount of sense. I think I'll be making more of these short stories - see if I'll get my thoughts together next time.
Everyone else: thanks. _________________ Why bother burning books ? Nobody reads them anyway... |
