Alright, so this is what I have so far: I've edited the original pic (thank you all for your suggestions!)
The problem I have now is that I can't figure out how to color it: I mean--the original idea was to have this a mostly red/orange picture -- but if I have the sun setting, it would cast the foreground (the angel) into shadow. any ideas?
(make sure to reload the page: I just overwrote the previous image)

Looks pretty good...I think the confusion will be sorted out once the colors/values are started. His forward foot, however, seems too high...it's closer to us and should be a little lower given the prespective. Right now it almost looks like he's taking a half step. |

I voted for A even though I actually kind of like B. The problem is that B confuses me...I have no idea what exactly he's doing with that sword. |

The whole image is evil toned-looking, the sword pointing down is a double irony there with religious symbols, so it makes it work alot better. Or maybe it just flows better pointing down, I'm not sure. |

Feel free to kick me in the teeth but here are my thoughts on the colouring:
Maybe create an evening with deep purples and somber blues and then you'll have a dull glow of light with the necropolise below. But keep the angel inclosed in evening shadow light, this will keep in tune with his posture. Create a light radiating from him. So horizon/clouds blues/purples/reds and hint of yellow/orange, necropolose redies/oranges/purples. and the foreground angel- lit from below in the oranges (reds) and blue(cyan) from above creaping around the edges and a dull glow from eyes, glow from sword and hands (one of the same)
But with the highlight of cyan on the angel the sky would have to be quite dark at that point. Also take care with the light reflections from the hand closest to you. _________________ Bonza |

here's where I am right now as the colors go. I'm still vacillating between skin-tones/angel colors. also the coloring for the waterfal doesn't seem quite right to me...any ideas?
overpaints, c&c welcome as always : )
oh crap! this is going to be a watercolor: I need more WHITE!
I'm also playing with the shape of the "energy" emenating from his hands --> I've changed it in this picture (and also accentuated the color to help define the shape -- it won't really have its own color later; it'll just affect whatever is underneath it). Is the more linear...lightning-sort-of energy more effective?

Hey ya, as always kick me in the teeth if you like.
the energy lines. play them down a little right now they're ripping though the picture and destorying the eye flow. Use them wisely to nudge the viewers eye around the picture.
er...with your permission would you mind if i do a wee bit of fiddling with the colours? _________________ Bonza |

of course! fiddle! fiddle!
(and yeah, I just toned the energy lines up b/c that's what I was focusing on -- they'll be almost invisible in the final version -- if I even use them)
here's a link to an image minus the energy:

nah thats to dark i like it with the colors he has it jsut needs a little touch up and keep the energy beam but tone it down alot and if it still ditracts your eyes from everything else then just get rid of it all together.. |
