Hi I spent about 3 hours sketching this out and liked how it turned out, and possibly want to continue it. The scan focusses on just the dragon, but there's a lot more space on the page and I was wondering what would make a cool background for this.
I looked around on the internet and observed some of the characteristicts of dragons as i've never drawn them before but thought i'd give it a shot...
Any ideas?

I think it's tough to critique an image like this, because it's really hard to say what needs work on a fictional creature. As far as fantasy art goes, it doesn't look too bad, though the lighting is inconsistent and the pose is very stiff. He's a dragon, think fire and fury and anger and all that. Think action, make it more dynamic. I think to sharpen your lighting skills you should work with observable subjects, such as human bodies or still-lives. Just belt out a few lighting studies a day, from life or from photo ref, until you start to get a feel for it. Then it'll be easier to apply it to fictional settings like this. |

Nice image. Nice pensil work.
Specially like the wing texture.
Bad lighting, weird proportions (left foot in mind).
Dont studdy dragons. Studdy "crocs".
Since the dragon seems to be sitting, you could always paint him defending his treasures. Like as if he were sitting on a lot of gold coins,
(always a selling concept conserning dragons).
Dont talk shit about peoples art. _________________ Fru Tina Kttet |

thanks guys.
I was thinking about using ol' photoshop 7 and my wacom to colour this image, as originally it was supposed to start out as a little sketch as a base for a ps painted image, but I suppose I just got a little carried away. *tee he*
Sorry about that "shit" remark on the other post, its just the last forum I was signed up to was getting flooded with, hmm not so good art work so understand my disposission (sp?). Sorry again! _________________ "Reality is an illusion all be it a very persistant one." - Albert Einstein |

Hey ya, nice picture of a dragon. you said you looked at images on net.I used to draw a lot of dragons, i'll post a few some time soon. When i was begining i'd deconstructed the dragon into core animals, namly crocs, lizards and hind quarters of lions. I studied mucles and bone structions of these animals to get a deeper understanding, remember structure and it understanding is 95% of the picture. Maybe you should start off with lizard/snake type dragons and when you feel comfortable move on. Feel free to contact me if you'd like to know more. Happy hunting. _________________ Bonza |

I found a dragon sketch on the computer so i thought i'd show it to you.

Cheers...
