The best you can do is get a teacher.

I agree, get a teacher

I learned more in my first week at a music teacher than the 4 months I had played up until then (studying books and webpages). If you want to get serious, I definately recommend tutoring Smile

Good luck

I wrote up a tutorial on finger exercises a while back for Shadow-X. Lunatique and co. gave slightly more practical advice. WHATEV.

Just to further reiterate Ragnarok's point, teachers are pretty invaluable. Since 75% of playing an instrument is physical training, a teacher can advance you a long in way in knowing how to pluck the string and grip the neck. Check the music stores around you-- most of the owners will be more than glad to give music lessons to you, usually at a reasonable rate (something like, 20 bucks for an hour).

I suggest learn some through the internet. Littered all over the web is this thing called tab (or tabulature) wich is somewhat like sheet music, only simpler. (that is if you don't know sheet music already.)

on www.olga.net for instance, you can find tabulature for all kinds of songs. From the james bond theme to slipknot, from django reihart to steve vai and everything in between. (Just make sure you read the "guide to reading tab" that can be found somewhere on the main page.)

Then there are several (lots and lots) of guitar forums. I strongly recommend www.12string.net (doesn't have the largest amount of users, but it has a good spread in age, style, skill, plus its serious. mostly the same guys and girls around making it kind of like a family.)

Good luck.
