This is important because they need nice looking avatars, but instead of hiring and
paying artists to make them the steal them.
They should have payed to use them, because that is how artist make a living.
This is a clear copyright violation that there is no exquse for.
They would lose if anyone cared to sue them. |

You know what, I'm just gonna say what's on my mind..
I hope they get sued and I hope they make a fucking example out of them. So that next time somebody right clicks his mouse he will think long and hard before he steals somebodies artwork.
If they get sued and get ruined, there's a party over at my house and you're all welcome _________________ It's not cheating if you put peanut butter on your genitals and let your dog lick it! It's not... IT'S YOUR DOG!! |

sounds good. and agreed. Id like to see someone burn for this (despite not having anything to take/worth taking as a matter of fact it upsets me)
theres a special place in hell for art thieves. Right next to the actual thieves but in some kind of kiddie play pen area with plastic balls of doom.

Well it would appear that the 'Avatar Inc.' is now bricking its pants and sulcing at the same time
Quote
Submit Site?
10/26/2003 6:32:34 AM - Some1
If Avatars Inc. is supposed to continue as site it will likely be in some form of submit site where most content is original made and submitted for use on site. Making the images link to specified places and show name with mouse over them could make it attractive to submit to site. This would need some initial coding and some firm rules to be followed.
Question is if PsychoPH has time for the coding and if I want to run such a site. Giving people of the forums the best options was what I enjoyed and why I put in a lot of work.
What about the pretty much essential avatars of famous movie or animated characters? Would name and link be enough or could I expect another angry mob a month after potential changes?!?
If someone has been offended by past news then thats fine, but the base of them is the statement that I am not about to reward those who sought destruction of site and then expected site to be nothing but a tool to benefit them selves.
Many complained about me having lack of respect and understanding for their work; but they them selves have had no respect or understanding at all for what I tried to do with site.
Might be few days untill next news but there will be news on what happens next. I have gotten nice mails and near nasty mails and I do not mind hearing more from you out there.
Link Dead (LD)
10/24/2003 11:01:46 AM - Some1
Complaints still complaining and its now for sure that some kind of big change has to happen. Avatars Inc. Will not be the same.
One thing for sure is that I am not going to promote those artists that have worked to get site content down. I am not about to help those who prevent me from helping others. There is no money or favoritism to be gained from us (ever).
Avatars Inc. Might not continue as a site or at all but it could potentially continue in some way or form. Thinking of options and the next way to go is what I will be doing once and while the next days.
I hope Avatars Inc. has been of use and have helped some of you out there.
I just hope that it sends the message to others, and I am definatly going to keep and eye out 4 other company doing the same |

My, such developments on gamespy.
I think that Plissken fellow is a piece of work, though. Yesterday he wrote this on an "Avatar request" thread:
Quote: |
Art complaint thing is irrelevant. Until Some1 or Shaithis tells me otherwise I'm going to keep fulfilling avatar requests through any means.
So keep requesting. |
He is so pissed off that the artists rained on his parade and ruined his "best of the best" avatar site. He doesn't realize that he wouldn't be in this pickle, and he wouldn't be removing all these avatars, if he and his associates had done it properly (asked permission) from the git-go. But they didn't do that, and now they are dealing with the consequences.
The hypocritical kicker is, these guys requested that anyone who used "their" avatars link back to Avatars Inc. to give them credit for the avatars. Did you get that? They wanted to make sure that Avatars Inc. got proper credit for "their" avatars (i.e. the avatars they stole from artists), but these guys feel very angry and bitter because artists have the audacity to expect the same thing.
Just amazing. The self-delusion and hypocricy is amazing. _________________ Madness takes its toll - please have exact change. |

Oh no..big fucking loss to the artists if he won't use their art in whatever new form he tries to run. Does he expect people to suddenly feel sorry for him, or to be apologetic? Man, what a moron. His whole site was based on stealing other peoples work. It doesn't matter if he "just wanted to have the best avatar site out there." I just want to have the best car on the road, so I guess that makes stealing someone elses car OK. But if you complain to get your car back, don't think I'll be telling everyone what a cool car you have! *laugh* I hope his site, whatever site he tries to create, crashes and burns. He hasn't learned anything here, and it's doubtful he ever will.
Every day people find new ways to destroy my faith in the common sense of humanity. |

Ps. F*ck Gamespy! I can't believe they stole that art... I reconize it aswell. This is what I do for copyrights, I burn all of my original files on CD including the sketches n what not... then I fedex it to myself and never open it! Why use Fed X? Because they have all of the dates and history recorded on their computers... that only backs up your claim even more. _________________ Beaumont 'from the beautiful mountain' origin French |

Kitamard: I've heard of this technique before. It really is ingenious. I've heard of people mailing script ideas to themselves and other intellectual property aswell. I'd love to hear a real life success story to see if this ultimately holds up in court. |

Reading these two sentences make it easier for me to determine that he's quite a selfish, selfcentered pig right away. I can't believe Gamespy hired such immature people to handle things like this.

Has anyone been keeping track of the thread over on Gamespy? I thought it had died a while ago, but I just checked, and apparently it's still got some life in it. More garbage is being spewed, and apparently some of the guys there want to say that the art they stole is crappy and no one really wanted it anyway. (But when it's made into an avatar, suddenly then it has value.) Also, they are basically saying that artists are inconsequential, and "get in the way" of them using the "information" (that's the artwork that they stole).
These people are amazing. And apparently quite bitter and pissed off that the artists (those mean, "attention whore" artists) got the avatar site taken down. _________________ Madness takes its toll - please have exact change. |

I just went and took a look at those forum posts. It is absolutely amazing how incredibly stupid those people are. They make the most ridiculous justifications and try to suggest that they are the 'real' victims in all of this.
Someone should actually sue, to make damn sure those f**kers get the real message. It really needs to be done. A swift kick up the ass is just what the doctor prescribed. |

Now they've really done it. Someone has impled that "Art should be FREE!" Someone has said that if you want money for your art, it isn't really art anymore.
These folks just shovel the crap up higher and higher. Amazing. _________________ Madness takes its toll - please have exact change. |

I would like to let you people know that I've had a friend and owner of another gamesite who supports Sijuns in their position has put this subject into question, and a startling individual has shown themselves. This person, evidiently the same kind of individual who stole the artwork at gamespy, bars no respect for artists, and indeed would also probably say "Art is free! If they sell it, its not art!" as well as they have admitted that if they see a picture, and like it, they will take it, take ownership of it, or steal it and make it into an avatar or a signature without any sort of permission.
The general poise that the common public is on art is rather disturbing. Atleast there are countries like Japan where a majority of the inhabitants have a respect for artists and artwork. English people need some morale changing.

Well, Ian, your quote was so short and sweet and to the point and it expressed so eloquently what we all felt!
I am weary of these Gamespy hooligans. They truly have no respect for artists. What a bunch of weasels. _________________ Madness takes its toll - please have exact change. |

Sooo you guys want a hard-case ripp off art site? Here is one stealing and posting famous artists from all over. Scanned book files, seriously, I was paranoid and had a fear some of my better dragon prints might be in here. Evidently I'm not famous enough
