hi! im new. i absolutely love everyone's work, and want to post. ive only just now been told that geocities won't allow for images to be posted on forums, that instead you have to provide the link so that someone can go out of their way to view it. is there any other server (that's free) that i can upload my art to? any help is very much appreciated

I know they have a thread about this over at Cgtalk and that is kind of the only link that I have about the subject, AndyT is the guy you should question about servers and such, he has all the links and is the link-master here at Sijun. You can also search the subject here in Sijun, just hit the magnifying glass in the top right icons.

Yes I think Angelfire ( http://www.angelfire.com ) still allows hotlinking.
I think I saw a hotlinked image hosted at http://villagephotos.com !?
You can try them.

Since I pay for professional hosting I don't have up to date informations.
$50/year is worth it! And it can be even cheaper.
I just mention this because maybe you just never asked yourself if it would make sense!?
Free hosting just sucks these days.

Do you see an image here?
If you see it you could post a preview of the image and link to the Deviantart website.

just rename the picture to a *.txt file and upload it to the server.... then just use IMG script and instead put...

www.geocities.com/blahblah/picture1.txt... and it should be displayed..

as far as i know geocities works... and most of those other "no external linkage" sites....

Here's my advice:

Everyday, pick up change off the ground. With the 10 cents or so you'll make everyday, you can afford www.liquenox.net , which is hosted by our very own Sumaleth. Thus, no worrying about hotlinking or free servers.

Trust me, you'll save yourself a ton of trouble by just forking over the ridiculously small amount of money for actual hosting.
