So, what are your thoughts on the whole figure skating scandal?
I watched it live, and couldn't even fathom what had happened. It sucks just sitting in your living room not being able to do anything at all while your country is quite literally walked all over.
I hope those judges contract gonorrhea and rot in the pits of Hell. |

I sure am glad Utah spent a billion dollars and fucked up the roads for three years so that we could host ice dancers from other countries. |

Yeah, I agree they got shafted.
[Shizo] - Russia won Gold when it was Canada that pulled off a better performance than they did. Canada got silver.
Last time I looked at the news this has something to do with the french judge (and maybe some others?) during that competition. |

Ill probably be flamed for this, but I think the Russians deserved the gold.
The Russian pair has better edge quality and noticeably better speed, as well as better spins. Sale and Pelletiers routine was great, but there was a LOT of plain stroking, whereas the Russians had footwork that both improved the flow of the program and upped the difficulty.
Yes, Sikharulidze stepped out of a double axel and a couple landings were slightly shaky, but their mistakes were minor for a long program and the rest of their skating easily made up for it. |

Heh..Eire,
They were quicker yes, but only slightly and only because their music called for it.
Their spins were better? Which ones? The triple-axle where he fell? Or the double where she did? :P
You then moved on to acknowledge the above yourself, thus completely contradicting yourself.
"Their spins were better... but they fell. But that is minor" (paraphrased)
The "minor" parts of the program are the simple footwork routines. The spins are considered the most difficult and crucial part of a performance.
In any case, they were robbed. It isn't like it's us Canadians sitting here complaining. The entire world is on "our side". Happen to see Leno last night? He looked good waving that Canadian flag around. |

Contracting gonorrhea and rotting in the pits of hell is a pretty serious punishment for something like this, isn't it? |

Not really. I'm VERY Canadian. I personally think Canada deserved the Gold in that one. I only saw them, not the Russians, but they were really good (I'm no judge of figure skating).
Seriously, I don't really know what to say except why the HELL do people have to be so damn stupid?
I might sing O Canada, but it's definitely my least favorite song. Sooo boring.
Did you know that uh...a lot of professional woman figure skaters have osteoporosis?
Urgh. I don't know why I tore myself away from watching "the Mists of Avalon." |

I didn't really see either performance, I haven't payed much attention to the olympics this year.
However, I'm sure thousands of people with conflicting opinions will tear into eachother to resolve this debate.
so far they said they weren't going to reverse the decision of who got the gold, they are just doing a 'formal investigation' into the matter. |

Snarf-
But they didn't fall. There was a step out of a double axel, which IS relatively minor for a long program where there are no mandatory deductions. I did not contradict myself. You seem to have spins confused with jumps, and might have misread my post because of it.
As for their spins, they did not have a combination spin like the Russians did. Also, the overall speed of skating is not determined by the speed of the music.
Most of the outrage towards the results that I have seen has been coming from Canadians and Americans, and most of what I've heard from Europeans seems to favor the Russians. There was a lot of media hype in America about this event, and I think it might have affected the way many people saw it.
Perhaps it was fixed and they were robbed after all, but I still say that if I were judging I would have given it to the Russians. |

Amen, monkey. After Yamaguchi went pro, the only reasons I have to watch the Olympics is the skeleton, the luge, and hurling. The thing is, hurling is RARELY aired on television, damn bastards.
Anyways, it's always funny when the layman hates the trained and experienced individual whenever a personal opinion stands in the way.
That policeman sure could sing, by the by. |

Yeah the skeleton looks like a wicked ride. I'm used to the louge events but I never though about going down there face first.
Must be some rush... |

The skeleton does sound kinda fun...if I was totally insane.
I am now happy. Canada won Gold in something...I think it was speed skating, and Italy, my grandparents native country, did well in something else, I forget what it was. |

Impaler - its 'C'urling - not hurling - unless there's a new Olympic binge-drinkin' event
- you'd love the TV coverage in the UK - its curling for at least 3-5 hours a day, plus in depth Q+A on techniques and equipment 'yawn' |

There are a lot of people upset about this matter, not just Canadians.
Wasn't there also something about the Russians and the French trading votes or something? |

Well, I think the safer one is probably not the skeleton. If you crash head-on, you're more likely to snap your neck. In the luge, you're less likely to break your neck than you are, say, your leg.
Bobsledding is crazy, though. |
