hey there!! first of all, i really like the image, it has a very nice feel going for it right now. one big tip i could give that I can see right away (one that i am having trouble with myself, that's the only reason i see it) is plan out a pose before you start anything. I can see that you probably started with a face (like most people do) and I really think that's the wrong first move. (again I am having the same problem when i sit down to draw). having a head-on view like that kinda limits what pose you can put the character in, and therefore you are limiting your image in the longrun, it also can set your image up for distortion if you start with single parts of the drawing. always remember to work on an image AS A WHOLE never overwork one area, that will make other areas seem like they don't belong. I hope this helps some!!!! drop me a line sometime ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) _________________

Thanks for the reply!
I got the pose from this reference: http://home.no.net/zebraen/rot_3.jpg, but as you can see, it only covers the upper half of the body. I think my main problem is not having bought burne hogarths dynamic wrinkles and drapery (or whatever the title is) and going to a school which just doesn't seem to bother with petty details like wrinkles and drapery.
I see how the face is overworked and the body is underworked though. ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

well its a good start but the body is a problem looking at your reference your drawing isnt hunched over enough.....
What i would do is take your reference image draw alota stick figures of the pose untill you get it right then start to sketch the body using the stick figures as a reference. Cuz what i can see right now u need to have the shoulders at more of an extreme angle and have the whole right side of her upper body (your left) brought down so you can see the shoulders roll into the back and just a little bit of the stomach area.....
Also for the bottom half of the body as i can see the reference has no bottom portion u need to have her right foot forward and her left foot more to the back and this will also cause a crease on the dress indicating wear the legs are. because the guy in this reference is hunched down alot hes crouching to a point.
Well hopefully u can make sence of my constant rambleing i dunno if any one can =] great start and good luck.... |

Thanks RebbelX! I think that helped a lot! I sketched up the pose for the legs following your advice, and I think I reached a much more dynamic and exciting pose! Here is the update:
Also, his left hand is going to be holding a syringe (thus the strange hand position)
I still think he needs to crouch more though, I'll work on that tomorrow. Feel free to make overpaints as examples! I sometimes get caught up in my own patterns of thought ![Wink](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |
