It's not so far from what I intended for it.

But I want to work on it some more probably, beyond speedpainting, to get the actual drawing of the head right Razz, and then to try and get the materials closer to how I want them. Both those things gave me trouble when i was making it.

The head/jaw/face/neck thing is all too flat, I'm having trouble with it. And I wanted a dark-grey shiny plastic feel to him rather than whatever the hell I've got. and i'm sure the leaves could look better. more intersting, slightly damp.

Anything you can say or paint to help me would go much appreciated.

Screwed around with it for 2 hours with the advice mr mullins gave me (in speedpainting) but.. pfff, my flimsy skills just don't hold up. Not to mention my flimsier still understanding of the shape of a head.

Just trying to light the head properly.. god, wot a pain, I'm too pathetic with ol' digibrush. Or rather I'm pathetic way before the stage of actually trying to make the right marks at all.

Crying or Very sad Thanks the help spooge. and star-glider, I'm glad you enjoyed mucking around with the painting in the speedy thread. Smile

let me see your attempt Smile

some advices: dont be in a hurry to make details (use small brushs), take a time to playing with lighting with bigger brushs (and try think those objects as simple, big) so maybe you will find your intended painting

good luck

I like the image alot, I'm a fan of oranges and blues. I really love the leaves as they are. Composition seem good. Maybe some other object up above his head to the right? Just a thought, I think it would be fine with out aswell.

You have a loose brush stroke going on, perhapse the shiny plastic look is lost by the looseness of the placement of the highlights? I'm not sure how plastic reflections look off hand, but maybe get some referances?

The head apears fine to me. Nit-picking, the left side of the nose seems indented to a pinch to much. The top left side of his head might be reflecting/picking up to much colored light making it seem smaller. Maybe develop the chest area some more slightly and that will help the head have more demension to it?

Is this a blue light source or a orange/yellow?

yes well, the colours are amazing but, perhaps there the problem?, if your worryed about it all looking flat, then round the shading more around the eyes, and the neck

What you need is more contrast, Look at things around you that are shiny plasticy. They are all very High in contrast and they have alot of highlights, you might want to look at a piece of tin.

To learn how to paint realistically you need to look at the things you want to paint. That is the only way to do things right... Learn from life Smile

I hope this helps.
But other than that. Keep up the work... it's looking good.

The right side of the head looks pretty good, add more radiosity to the rest of the roboman, maybe some vague details in the reflection as well (are there anything more than a blue light source above him? if there are, say dark leaves or something, show that in the radiosity as well) I think you can make the leaves damp by adding small reflecting details, dunno if that will actually happen or now, sry.
