these are for the mythical women contest at gfxartist.com.

getting the right colors in the right places really brought this one together. adding texture to the leaves, dress and trees helped identify them a bit better, so the picture didn't congeal into a mess of flats. the border just kicks a lot of ass. can't think of a good name for this one, apart from 'lady autumn' or something.

similarly, the last things i did on this one was to add the spots on the fish and the shiny tips on the scales. i did a LOT of mucking around with colors.

anyways. these two took nine days to do. not bad. c&c would be appreciated.

-Ken

wow!

lovely work, Ken...
after much inner turmoil and indecision I've come to the conclusion that my favorite of the two is Sirene.

I love the direction you've been heading with your work lately
kind of a calm flowing sense of movement.
I LOVE IT!

This is great art. I particularly like the second one.

Great!
I prefer the second one because i like the differences in the fishes and the scale-mosaic. It would be perfect as a (church)window.

In the first one the outlines are imho a bit to weak compared to the texture.

Those are by far my pictures of the day yet. Smile

Just browsing through the forum, discover this, and feel obliged to comment. I love the style. Prefer the first, the hair, the leaves, beautiful patterns and nice unified palette.

This is a hard decision !! Your first one looks "solid and established". The second one looks more "modern". Both are equal good....dunno what to prefer...

should have won, should have won, should have won. In my humble opinion the mermaid is a stronger piece, because the hair of the first one is a bit compositionally overpowering. i love them both though.

The wood scene is the stronger image, but the mermaid is easier to look at (it's also more decorative than the other....) But If I had to pick one overall it'd be the wood scene. The Mermaid is pretty but seems like a greeting card (I don't mean something negative by that - - but it is what occurred to me. Probably the repeating fish shapes caused this.)
