Often, when I flip the Wacom pen over to use the eraser, it does not detect in Painter or Photoshop. What causes that? |

if you have the software for the tablet installed you should at least get some reaction from using the eraser on anything. If it's not working at all, I'd make sure you have the software installed, and of course if it is, I'd check that you have the eraser function binded to some sort of purpose.
Goto the start menu and look for the wacom tablet folder and start up the wacom tablet short cut which will bring you to your wacom's config. Use the tools/buttons tab to assign the eraser to the eraser function.
otherwise I'd try updating your wacom's drivers via the Wacom website.
