Hi peeps,

In need of a small favour here. I set up a primitive portfolio site some months ago. It's completely notepad written using very primitive, economical, old-fashioned html code. I haven't had any complaints until now.

Here it is: http://www.torsteinnordstrand.com/

Right now, I've got a Mac user with Aol & Netscape failing to download the pages. Can you people please check it out for me and tell if it looks ok?

Any other suggestions or comments on how ugly it is, is of course also, ehm, appreciated. Thanks! Very Happy

Torstein

Hey Torstein

I dont have mac nor netscape and the page works for me, not sure if I am allowed to answer then. :)
I was thinking about the frames, maybe it is the frames causing the error and you also had an error log in your source code, have you noticed?
I think the site looks good but I dont know about the blue text used in the about section and the other sections, maybe you could use a color similar to the background or the navigation in a brighter or darker value, just a thought since you wanted comments.

see you
Matthew

Bob,

Thanks for helping me out. I presume you are on a Mac? I would very much like to know what kind of browser you are using too.

If I may ask you a further favour: torsteinnordstrand .com is only a redirecting address opening the "real" site in a full-size frame. The address to the real site is http://mysite.freeserve.com/tnordst/portfolio/info.html . if you have a minute, could you try that one as well?

Matthew, I know very little on code, but I do think the "error log" you mention (which is automatically embedded into the redirecting frame) is only a stored eventual message to some users trying to load the site with an incompatible browser. Or something like that Smile The different text colours used on the site are used to higlight that which I think is most useful to the visitor. I made them contrast a little to help that effect.

Crosswindstar: the atmosphere in the picture is achieved, besides the rendered light, using a smothering, golden "varnish". If you want to try it out, (in Photoshop) I often use Image -> Adjust -> Variations to "collect" the colours into a more pleasing whole.

ps: Since this thread has had some 50 views and some of those probably clicked the link, I am reluctantly deducting that most users here can see the site as intended.

Your images link to \whatever.jpg when they should be /whatever.jpg. Internet explorer works it out, but mozilla/netscape changes it to %5Cwhatever.jpg.

Shame on me for reverting to old MS-Dos sins...

Updated all links. Now, if anybody who have previously not been able to see images using mozilla/netscape can please report if it now works..?

The address is still http://www.torsteinnordstrand.com/

Now if only I could delete this thread to hide my shame... Wink

Are you sure that's not just your cache talking, Bob? I've gone through the file again, and there should be no such errors left.

I also downloaded Netscape 7.1 (which, by the way, feels much better than IE Smile) to check for myself, and it reads everything fine... can you try after flushing the cache?
