Has anyone purchased this book? If so, what did you guys think of it? Im considering buying this book to improve my drawing some more. I want something very instructional, but also teaches one on the relavent theories in drawing. Any advice would be great. |

Hey, check www.awn.com , they've got vilppu's whole book on there, along with his other sketching book. It's the same thing as the actual book hehe. Also check out www.fineart.sk if you haven't for loomis' books, and go to www.conceptart.org in the life drawing -> tutorials section for Kchen's drawing thread. |

Lev, I cannot find in AWN that manual...can you be more precise (section, etc...)? It looks promising! _________________ _ _ _____ _ _

There's 3 pages with chapters linked on them, when you click on a chapter link there's further pages linked inside each chapter, etc. |

Vilppu's book is great, you definitely should work from it. Loomis is great, but you'll only learn to draw stylized figures. If you want to draw realistic figures, Vilppu and Bridgeman are the way to go. Study both and be richer from the knowledge!

Have you seen Loomis' other books, Andy? I'm not bashing Loomis at all, I think Creative Illustration is my favorite of all his books I have. Such great info in that one. Everyone seems to talk about FDFAIW and never seem to mention his other books. Anyway, I should have expanded on my statement a bit. That's not ALL you'll learn to draw, but that IS Loomis' style. But his books have information on solving lots of drawing problems. Sorry if I confused anyone. _________________ Have a bad mange! |

I actually just bought The Drawing Manual. I like it a lot and definitely think it was worth the money. Well for me at least. The biggest difference that I've been able to find between the book and what Vilppu has on awn.com is that The Drawing Manual has waaaaay more examples of how to do something. Things like in the book he spends like 25 pages explaining anatomy vs. on awn.com he spends like 7 pages on anatomy...
If you want more specific examples or have any questions, let me know. |
