Here are two concept designs I did earlier this year. They are for Levis' commercial called "Car". They are very early concepts for post production/Visual FX/matte painting purposes more than anythng else, so the film crew shot the sequences in some kind of industrial area. It was interesting to work in this way, where the director and I could throw some ideas. The final product doesn't have this low tech look to it, but again, these are very early and done at a fast rate. I think I spent two or three days in total for both of them.
The "arena" you can see on the second picture was an idea of the final showdown that they liked. We had a lot of trouble of how the matte paintings would look like, but they ended up nice with a simple sky and a few buildings scattered around.
Enjoy...

ooohhhh pretty.
I think you should try to get a job drawing or something.
maybe you could paint trees and mountians all day.
I bet you would be good at that.
Seriously. I dig em. the colors make me feel warm inside.
Keep it up.

Actually, I heard you were working at a very cool place, drawing them nice pictures all day. Do you have a good football team? I heard you were pretty bad ass. _________________ http://www.somniostudios.com |

They have a nice industrial feel!
The perspective is a bit off in some places, but it really doesn't bother the overall image. |

Wonderful concepts. Can't await to see the matteshots.
I remember your last mattepainting, this plane on the sunny beach.
When I saw the shot on TV I couldn't believe it first...when i realized that it was your painting it was gone already. That's the only bad thing about mattes.
They are gonne before you are able to realize them.
Thanks for sharing your stuff!! |

As a member of the intended target audience for that commercial...I say job well done. I really liked the whole concept and immediately went out and bought 20 pairs of Levi jeans after seeing it.
erm. yeah.
Nice job. _________________ - yorric::

Glad you like it. It was a fun and fast paced project. (I miss that).
Sumaleth> Tempting, but no thanks.
The drawings were done with markers as a base for my drawing, which I touched up and traced with ink. The ink drawing (solid black lines on white) were scanned and colored in Photoshop. I'm proud to say the first image of the two took one (long) day to finish. _________________ http://www.somniostudios.com |
