SPOONGE!!!! This is my first time in paint, and I'm having pallette control issues, What colors do you start with in your oil sketches? could you just give me a quick list on your next post, or email me at [email protected]?

sorry that these images suck I only have a digital camera so heres a little detail if it helps http://www.morrellart.com/sijun/paintings-008.jpg

they are all around an 1 - 2 hours and something close to 16" x 24" but thats just a guess

i hate how photoshop is so damn clunky. hopefully theyll address that in this upcoming version. Painter may be slower, but jeez, atleast it doesnt turn circular motions into practically squares.
between my classes (photography, interactivity, 3d modeling, typography, etc. etc.) and my personal life, i havent been able to do much recently. but im sitting here listening to Nada Surf and, well...

RIng! times up, place your pencils on the tray in front of you.

Hpx, know the feeling. Loved your wolverine head!

turpenoid, Your sketches look fine to me. No colors problems that I can see. But to answer your question, oils still kick my ass every time I go near them. I am thrashing about trying to come up with an organized way of going about them, so I am still in the very steep part of the learning curve. Sorry I can't be of more help.

But I do think if you are having any kind of trouble, go back to black and white or a Zorn palette so at least you can eliminate that variable from your troubleshooting. The Zorn colors are white black, yellow ochre, burnt umber, I think. Well that will get you in the ballpark.

Only other suggestion I could make is to simplify your shapes a little more, it will be easier to paint too. Squint and see where you see contrast and where you don't. If an arm and leg join together in shadow when you squint, paint it that way.

zhuzhu // yea 200 speedys saved on the harddrive and maybe I have made a lot more cause I dont always save my stuff. I havent posted all of the 200 though, maybe 180 or something. Thank you.

XIA - Nice stuff there.

Simoom - hehe I dont know what it is either, just a new approach to color, thank you.

syzygu - Lovely Flower.

zhuzhu - Killer stuff the latest, very good.

Spooge - Crazy cool, very good.

ceenda - I love that clean design, I am starting to do some of that stuff too in my long term projects.

So page 188 will soon come to its end, keep up the good work everyone.
I am trying to throw in as many colors as possible in these latest paintings, there is actually a little bit of purple in this latest one.
