Warning - unadulterated bluntness below.
Overly smooth shading on the skin. Makes her head look like a misshapen clay ball with eyes and lips. Nostrils and lips appear to be aimed straight at the viewer though the angle of the rest of the head says otherwise. The white of her right (our left) eye is too bright, makes it look like it's floating at about the same height as the bridge of her nose. And speaking of the bridge of her nose, she doesn't appear to have any seperation between her nose and her forehead. The hair doesn't shadow the neck at all, which makes it appear to be in front of the chin instead of behind it.
On an artistic note, the hair has way too much detail and not enough form. It looks completely flat, and since most of the image is overly smooth to begin with, adding individual strands to the hair makes this more aparent.
Don't concern yourself with smoothing everything out as much, try and think of each area of the face as a flat plane with a single color across it, then smooth later. And remember hair is more than a bunch of lines, think of it's overall shape first, then think about details like individual strands.
Her left eye is kinda' nice on it's own. _________________ -CyberA(rtist) aka Ben Golus |

In addition to CyberArtists rather frank critique, i'd like to add that the eyes seem to be placed too high. However, without seeing the photo you referenced this from it's a little difficult to give you a more detailed critique for correcting the problem. It's possible that this is the result of other oversights made while trying to capture the likeness of your model, but i'd need to see the picture to know for sure.
It's a good start though. Definitely shows a lot of promise! _________________
