The rules of Draw Club:

. Each theme will last exactly one week.
. We're looking for an effort, not a 10 minute sketch.
. You are not limited to the digital media.
. Do not "reserve" your place, post an image only when you have something to post.
. Feedback is encouraged.
. Keep away from interpretations of an adult nature.
. Post as many times as you like.
. Have fun.

Draw Club #23: Metal Menace

The last matte-painting Draw Club - Mountain Base - proved so popular that it was inevitable that it return: and here it is!

Starting with this background plate:

(here is a large version - 240k)

Your task is to paint in a large, menacing hulk of hardware. Like what? Like a big flying or land craft, or maybe a "mech". That's right: we're after something COOL in that scifi kinda sense this week. Something imposing. And of course the aim is to blend it into the background plate like you were doing it for Episode3.

You can scale the plate to any size you like, and also perform any editing required to achieve your goal.

Kind of low participation in the Draw club lately, I am glad you still giving us Draw Club Sumaleth. I thought I could do something this week but I dont wanna be in every draw club cause I guess it would be boring to see me in the draw club every week.
I made a sketch and changed the scenery very much in this one, I hope that is allowed in Matte-paintings. Out of focus robot in the back. :)

Keep it up everyone and nice contributions so far :)

I like the texture on the mountain base...it blends well, but the perspective is kinda funky and it definately needs some snow buildup in that dish.

That second one really has the 50's era sci-fi movie feel to it that goes great with the Metal Menace title (doesn't "The Metal Menace" just sound like a 50's sci-fi horror movie anyways?)

Well, I must at least give it a try, even with my limited skills.

Jesus! This is very difficult! I've never done this kind of thing before.
I'll have to live 500 years (or more) to learn this!!!

Shocked Oh man, Godwin...I love the texture on that mech. That's the look I'm trying to achieve on my unfinished mech, but I just have no clue how to go about it ... I have no clue how to texture period. :/ The lighting might be a bit strong for the diffuse quality of the picture, but I still love it... Simply amazing. I have so much to learn. Exclamation

i just used a size 1 brush on low opacity and dotted brown and grey dots and marks where i wanted, mostly on edges, note that i use a mouse, so my techniques and methods are not traditional in that sense

This is a photomanip. Sorry I didnt have time to give it an effort. I was recently messing with the proportions on some model sheets I got from fineart.sk (c) 3d anything.com, and I just spent about 5-10 minutes pasting the ones I modified it into this set.

This is NOT my art. Okay. Wink This is just playing around. I thought it looked kina neat though

http://light1.home.mindspring.com/copies/paint_overs/photomanips6.jpg

This is definetly a throw away piece. Smile

The city was lifted from the city picture that anthony posted. I think if I had more time I could make this look kinda cool but a big storm is brewing so I have to go do some things.

Again: This is pure photomanip/mouse work. This is a delete piece in about 1-2 days.
