i think the white background is fine, it isnt too harsh and really makes the two main focal points pop out at you.

I like the idea of a simple bit of text somwehere, upper left would prolly work best since it would be easier to associate the line with the little dude. As for a quick bit of text I think something a long the lines of

"I hate mondays..."

would be rather witty, implying that destroying robots is this guys job and dont mondays always suck like having to destroy a giant ass robot?

edit: if you really want the white gone, go with a very low saturated color, maybe a very pale gray-blue background. something around R:197, G:205, B:219 would work very well. Courier would be a good choice for the font of any text since it is somwhat computer-ishy in looks and i personally feel its great for the 'oh crap' kind of quick comments

great idea about the monday thingie. i would suggest just removing the line and leaving it like that.. kinda making a point of how much you hate mondays that you dont even see whats under your feet.. it gives us the feeling that the solidier dont have anywhere to run.. great background btw

This is an interesting piece, but I think the profile shot takes away from the concept.
What could be a little bit more dynamic would be a backshot of the man, in a worms-eye-view, looking up at the robot. It might help the composition a bit.
But, whatever, what do I know.
