vancekovacs.com is now up and running, at least in it's first incarnation. Feel free to take a look.

Many great artists have made their way to my "inspiration" folder, but few have made it to my internet's favorites list. Congratulations on getting on my favorites list.

Shocked

Awesome stuff! Really like your illustration section. So much volume and atmosphere.

How do you pronounce your last name? Kovach? Kovaks? Kovas?

xyster's point would be pretty much the only thing to critisize.
your work is looking good at that small size, too but the true genius can be seen when you have a larger image.

Many thanks, Vance Very Happy

I had no idea you invested so much small detail - most prints and jpgs I've come across have been too small to give your marks any credit at all.

As fansites go, the only thing to wish for now (except for more pictures, of course) would be a step-by-step series of an individual painting in progress, with a brief explanation of the process you typically go through.

I can guarantee that there is an enormous interest out here if you would! It is, after all, no longer necessary to travel to Norway for a peak over Nerdrum's shoulder. Wink

Thanks again for sharing the close-ups!

really enjoyed seeing your illustrations as well as your 3D art.. and very nicely rendered sketches, too..

Full of admiration I associate with this crowd of people who seems to know you well. Easy to understand - I wouldnt miss your signature from now on. Wink
Your pictures are all full of your own personal caracter. Every detail formed with the same accuracy as the entirety without ,ever, beeing overelaborated.

wow, you cannot imagine how much i learned from looking at those detail shots.
many thanks!

i like how you sometimes only use a few strokes with a chalk tool to suggest everything, from form to surface structure...

oh, and i love seeing that white bird in a closeup. i always loved it because it is so defined in its form, yet so loose and in-the-move. it showed me how to balance simple strokes and silhouettes against some detailed parts. i didn't manage to pull off that balance trick myself, though Very Happy

edit:
just out of curiosity: when you work on an illustration like the druid with the dove, how much of a preliminary sketch do you make?
like, a full sketch and completely overpaint it with opaque brushes or do you work out everything in separate sketches and go directly for the paint job?
