Hi, I'm new around here.

After some interresting tutorials about skincolors, I decided to paint a test character.
The lightsource is the sun.
I tried some yellow-greenish tones on the lit areas (because he is standing in a wood ) and a reddish-violet-brown in the shadows.
the result is this odd sketch Embarassed

any ideas on how to improve this?

This is a good start. The anatomy is a little off, but what makes this looks so unusual is that the highlights are so bright, as though the figure has been oiled.

Also, there is too much emphasis in the net community to learn by reading tutorials. Instead, go to the library and read books by people who really know what they're doing. I'm not saying that those who write tutorials are all bad, but it's really a crapshoot unless you're quite familiar with the artist and his skill level.

Using that knowledge, draw from life. I can't stress that enough. Here at school, we have teachers who are professional illustrators and comic book artists who always show up at weekly life drawing sessions, not to teach, but to draw. That's not a coincidence.

The first thing that hit me is the stomach muscles. The dark point in the middle of the lower and the middle musclesshould be where the navel is. There are som other not that visible anathomy errors, but they're easy to fix.
