hi,
i've been looking around this place for a while, and over and over again, a couple of months ago and now and finally got around to register. Since i just finished a commission painting i am motivated to show some of my stuff here and hope for some feedback and critic.

my last finished (acrylics on self-stretched canvas; reference: photograph):





another painting, from a live model, a friend of mine posed for it in a 18 1/2 hours 'paint-marathon'. (acrylics on pre-stretched canvas)

the first one is sold, the second one is in the process.
i have lots more stuff but these too are the most recent paintings and it would be great to here some input, critic, comments..etc..

I like the first picture. The Second seems to have some problems, like some parts of the figure look quite flat.

I agree with SolarC here, the first picture is very good but with one minor problem, his left nostril is a bit higher placed than his right, you will see it if you flip the picture horizontal or look on the picture in the mirror, but still thou a very nice picture. :)

The second one is a little bit harder to comment, first with that you haven�t finished it and second that it looks a bit busy, it is hard to figure out if the blue is a bounced color or if it is oil on his skin, like if he is a mechanic or something. Well maybe not a good tip, I dunno.

I hope you wanted comments like this and that maybe something helped.

you confused me, matthew, i totally didn't realize that the second painting might look like a guy, i though i mentioned that my friend eva, a girl posed for me, maybe it's really hard to see. Also what makes you think it is unfinished? *interested* I think it would help if you go in a little more detail on that .

IMO they both look very expresive but the ligth on the second one seem to difusee and busy , the brush strokes does not sugesst volumen on a very acurated way and due this disorgased stylization the ligth seems confuse and threfore the volumen gets lost

I likef both they both have a personal syle so please keep that by all means, it is one of the most importat things to have, but the second one needs more thought on the diretion of the brush strokes since when you work with an impresionistic kinda of way the direccion of the brushstrokes are the ones that will sugesst a big deal of the volumnen you might wanna take more time to
re-chek them nice work and please post more =)

i know i should not post two posts on row but if i edit the upper one this mesage might not be read so

I have been browsing your site.
this tecnique tooked me some time the get the hag of it, so
it might help you:
So i might have another sugesttion to do to you if you use black on your paintings i would recomed that you do not use it (or use it on a lesser amout)
i use a mix of red and indigo blue to make the darkest shadows on my traditional images this are not completary but i like the gamma in theory a mix of any complemetary colors works too (green-red works wonders too) and this produces a more clean look on the color, use black only on reallllllyyy dark areas where theres really no even a bit of light.

ok the black, the black was my start out@canvas because i hate painting on white canvas more than anything. I put a more or less even black coat on the survace and then i startet sketching und painting. the black that you see in the eva painting (the second one) up there, is what shines through from the background. I enjoyed working like that alot because it seems i have more control over what can stand out and what doesn't have to..etc.. well i'll keep in mind what you suggested for the next painting . Oh and I used blue and orange as the complementary colors for the blue to show shadow on the orange it works i think and looks more natural, i guess what threw everything off is the fact that the black shines through..
i'm going to start posting more stuff next week or so, since i'm moving to hartford,CT, to go to college (hartford art school), once i get settled there and everything is set and time to paint you'll see more .
most of my old stuff you can see on the website anyway, allthough i have to update the photography section and stuff ..

Oh sorry about this, Don�t think you mentioned anywhere that the second one was a she model thou?
I confused the in process thing you said, you said, " the second one is in the process". I thought you meant work in progress with that or that you were processing it somehow, I am sorry about that.

When it comes to the comment what I said about the second painting and I guess I didn�t explain what I meant really but I think maxetormer has covered the most of it now thou. Still thou I see the same thing in both of the portraits and that is that their left nostrils is placed higher than the other nostril.
Anyway I am not a fund of giving crits and I just wanted to give you some comments or tips.

thanks matthew i want as much feedback as possible, i just didn't understand some of the things you said. But now it's all good.
in the process i ment , the first one is sold, and the second one is in the process of being sold . sorry wasn't good on clear expression.
