howdy.

the time has finally come for me to go dual monitor, and i was wondering if anyone has a 19" flatscreen crt to recommend?

also, i'm still using a wacom graphire2, and i've read that some wacoms don't function properly across two screens. do i need to upgrade?

thanks
-Ken

It's only the ultra cheap wacoms that have problems on dual screens because they come with a special cut-down driver. As long as the driver supports mapping (which the Graphire's does) you are OK.

Absolute top of the line CRT monitor would have tobe Sony. But they're costly.

Recently though, i've heard that Sony no longer produce any more under 21 inch CRT. So maybe this could means the prices are different than before, hopefully this means they'll cut down the price? I dont know. Love me.

Sony's 19" flat panel CRT line.

I love my Sony Trinitron even though the screen coating got scratched in the corner the rest works like a charm.

Here is a list of flat crt's at Bizrate. There are some good monitors to check here fo their details and different brands.

Good Luck....let us know what you decide on.

I recommend flat panel. So much better in so many ways. I have two flat panels and I love 'em. (I have Mitsubishi, which probably isn't a top-of-the-line brand, though it suits me fine. Next time I'm in the market for monitors, I'm getting the Apple Flat Panel Cinema Display!) Smile

I do not recommend flat panel at all. They are more expensive, have far slower refresh rates, and their colors are less brilliant.

Flatscreen CRTs take up your entire desk space for sure, but this is the only cost for superior display quality.

Refresh rates are kind of moot on flat panels. They are not the same animal.

True, flat panels are more expensive. If budget is an issue, then flat panel is out.

The Apple Cinema Display is a beautiful monitor and defintely up-to-snuff for color work.

The future is flat panel. It may not be there yet (affordability-wise) but it's coming! Smile

I love my flat panel, because it's so light, it's not hot and clunky, and there is no "flicker" on the screen. There is no evil radiation coming from it, like there is with CRT. Twisted Evil

I am so spoiled by my flat panel, I never want to go back to CRT. And the colors are decent. Probably not 100% for color sensitive work (but I don't have an Apple Cinema Display), but I've had some posters printed out and the color was close enough to satisfy me.

thanks for the tips, guys. i've seen flat panels, not too crazy about them (and can't afford them anyway Razz). i've read good things about both viewsonic and sony, i'd probably be willing to pay for a sony, if it's worth the extra money. i want good colors and clarity.

another great thing about sony monitor is that, it last VERY long. A 5 years old Sony can still be as vivid as you first brought them.

Samsung for example, might be beautiful at first your first glance. You use it for 2-3 year and it will fade out and degrades

Monitors designed for the true desktop professional, such as the "LaCie electronblue series", utilize an aperture grille dot pitch and flat screen technology. These monitors project images that are 100% flat, preventing unwanted distortion. As a result, what you see on the screen is what you see in print http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?id=10037

I have one of them i bought it for $379.00 and i'm telling you it's the best for painting. I think you can use it with any type of computer. I have a Mac G4 1.25 despite this i belive it will look good on your pc too. Buy two bro it's amazing.

Oh and hey i'm not the only one using it eaither check it out StarWars people use it too (Ryan Church)

I have a ViewSonic flatscreen, and the colors on it are great! It's only a 17" though and the resolution isn't good enough for me, but a 19" flatscreen ViewSonic would be really good, in my opinion. ^^
I don't know how good the other monitors that were mentioned are, but the colors on this monitor are so much better than the other two monitors in my house! ^_^

all LaCie do is stick other manufacturers hardware in their own box and put a huge markup on it..
