I'm not gonna lie, this is pretty-much the best stuff I've managed to crank out, and I'm not sure if I'm suitable for this forum judging by the amazing artwork I've seen thus far. But tell me what you think anyway...

latest effort:

I'm always striving for improvement, and I think maybe the next step is getting a tablet Rolling Eyes

but yeah, again, amazing work on this forum.

welcome... I'm kind of new myself Smile

2 things:

1) get a tablet (why are you waiting? it changes your life!)

2) get a pocket color wheel (a lot less money than the tablet)

for doing stuff with a mouse, that last ones really great! the first two...they're ok.

you're going to come back to these images after you get your tablet and have worked with it for several months screaming at yourself, "what was I thinking!?"

I only got serious about my artwork a year ago... so I've really applied myself, got a tablet... and I'm learning.
The biggest hurdle for me is color usage. I dont understand it... its foreign to me. But I strive for the understanding of it.
What I do know is this...before I started all of that I colored much like the images you posted...

grass? green

main blue light? reflective orange light

tree? brown

you see where I'm getting at?
you're farther on the path than a lot of people tho... the ones that shade with black and highlight with white...

If you're serious, head down the path of understanding... I'll see you there Smile

but dude... get a tablet seriously...
and dont forget that color wheel Very Happy

heh thanks guys. Thing is, I barely know what a tablet is, let alone which ones are the best. Embarassed
I don't suppose anyone could help me out in this respect. Maybe if I knew enough about them I could get my parents to buy me one. Twisted Evil
In the name of art that is.. Wink

For alot of people, tablets make a big difference in people's artwork. But for many, they'res little to no improvement. You have to be really dedicated to what your doing, and be willing to invest your money into. Alot of people think a tablet will be great, but end up never using it.. so maybe try a friends or rent one to see how you like it.

Nice artwork btw.. they're looking nice Very Happy

okay... my friend 00_Longhair uses a wacom intuos2 --12x12"....
top of the line (consumer wise) as far as I know...if it isnt top...its dang close.

anyway for something like that expect to pay $600 or so...

OR

you can get a 9X12" Aiptek Hyperpen for about $150...

for what I do it works just as well if not better... but if you were doing high detailed textures say for a 3d model, you would probably want to go with intuos2

I think the difference is in pressure sensitivity and the amount of magic pen-detecting bits they put in the board...

I remember when 00_Longhair was helping me check online for some specs comparing all the different brands out there, we found that Aiptek had a little more than half of the sensory dot thingamajiggers (sorry cant remember the name right now... its late Razz ) as the much higher than double priced Intuos2....

so it all depends on what you're willing to pay for. Or in this case your folks.

but I will say this... I wouldnt trade my aiptek for anything now...

there are of course more than just these two types of board too...
do some searching on google...see which one you like the best
