...well as it turns out, I need to figure out a way to finish the piece... I need advice on showing that she's jumping from the ground nearest to us in the bottom right corner...

I've decided the pirates are going to be shooting metal slug type missiles out also ...so hopefully I can include all of that in the next update...

It's looking really good! I think the ship needs a figurehead though. Twouldn't be a pirate vessel without a lusty lady apon the prow...

WOW Carsten that's amazing! I freakin love pirates so this is right up my alley. I love the sense of scale and the cool brush strokes. The only thing I'd change is to add more pirates and have them looking at their target rather than up to the sky.

you'll see what I mean next update...

amichaels: figurehead says you, avatar says I... the name of the ship is "The Leviathan" so I have to figure out how I'm gonna put the leviathan on the mast there.... lol

oh yeah and the pirates are gonna all have advanced weaponry... like rocket launchers and chainguns and stuff... YAY!

they also carry samurai swords although you can't tell in this pic. Very Happy

man the composition and colors are awesome. my only crit is i think the dude in the lower left corner should be bigger and going more towards the "camera", so they he'll become a more important part of the picture.

Dunno about everyone else, but I really liked the first one... The newer one totally changed the mood, and I think made the whole scene a little too busy and crowded.

I'd lose some of the highlight flares on second one, and make the sails darker and more detailed (wrinkles and stuff Wink

). And of course more than sketchy characters Wink

Tinusch: I'll agree with you there... the mood was compromised...

however...

my goal for the picture was , upon completion, knowing that I have the capacity to render a complicated scene...

I think if you take a look at some of my other work on my site.. you'll see a lot of small simple pics. not too much going on...a lot of staying in a comfort zone.. I guess I'm just trying to force myself to expand...

its really a challenge for me and its been quite
rewarding because of it
I will try with the next pic to do just as complicated (if not more) a piece, but not compromise the mood (hopefully) Very Happy

this is real eye candy.
i love complicated pictures, and this one looks great.
im thinking you shouldnt have cropped the image on the right side. it had some interesting detail.
something else that bothered me was the color of the skull on the sail. its too bright imo and attracts too much attention. (even with the best detergents they cant get it that white =] )

great scene overall! cant wait for the finished version, although i enjoy the progress pics just as much

yeah that pirate emblem is pretty dang bright.

They use clorox Smile

just kidding...I need to reduce the contrast between sails and ship... it's like all you see right now is sails... and then a little bit of the ship.

I guess I just need to put more detail in there...

The picture looks to sharp.. a few things look very pixelized,alittle to busy for my taste.but still a nice picture
