I have posted a few times around here. I really want to get into digital art more then just messing around. I have a once in a lifetime opportunity to go to school for free...I plan to take advantage of that. I have a fond interest in art and web design. I am looking into taking a BA or AS in Art...I need to work on just drawing skills more. I can draw if I have reference but it takes a long time to finish. I need to get the fundamentals of it all to get better. Where should I start in sketching...paiting...color..etc.. I know that Sumaleths links are there are great things there. I need more books or every just things that I can practice everyday I will have a lot of time on my hands for the next 4 or 5 months. Send all your suggestions my way please I am open to anything.

PS: Sorry about the rambling on...heh...I get carried away sometimes. Thanks

If you plan on studying web design I suggest that you study graphic design, including color theory, typography, etc. I wouldn't worry too much about your drawing skills if you're *sure* that that's the way you want to go.

Focus more on graphic design like the others said. Learn color theory, composition, layout, html, xml, and php and/or asp. There are very many more graphic and web design forums online than drawing/painting forums.

To get you started I have a few coding tutorials on my website. Secondly focus on what type of graphic design you would like to pursue. My art is 2D graphic design. For some of the best 3D graphic design check out the art from dangeruss (search google). We are both members of the digital design group Raster. Also check out other art groups such as Breed and iCE.

I hope this helps give you a place to start.

Unfortunately, I have not found a forum online for advanced or professional level graphic designers the way Sijun is/was for professional digital painters. Sad

Ahh I think when I first posted it was misunderstood. I have an interest in the whole art field not just graphic design. I would like to draw and paint, both traditional and digital, and do illustrations as well....but I can incorporate that into the web if I so wanted to. I need go places to help my drawing skills and color as well. Sorry for the confusion.

Some of the courses I am lookin into:
http://www.uma.maine.edu/art/
http://www.uma.maine.edu/Academics/uacadgraphicarts.HTML
http://www.rockportcollege.edu/aa_curriculum.asp
http://www.meca.edu/ (either Graphic Design or a BA in Fine Arts)
http://www.coa.edu/ACADEMICPROGRAM/artsdesign.html

I have a lot of choices to make I have to think about what I would really like to do but I want to work with some kind of arts area.

The best way to improve your drawing skills is to draw, draw, draw!

Think about ithow does one lose weight, or become more fit? It's the daily work-out, the daily drudgery of eating right, exercise, and so forth. Same thing with art skills. Continual practice is the key.

There's no "magic pill" that will make someone lose weight, and there's no "magic pill" that will make someone improve their drawing skills.

Just draw, draw, draw, every day. If there is a local life drawing class you can take, do that. (Some local community centers or art organizations hold classes, if you can't take one through a college)
